I have added hr and bold text to distinguish between the warnings and discussion text. They are also labeled so that we know which test they are at. See {{test2}}.

There are some people we don't want, like the asshole who spent his time putting pictures of penises in articles over and over again, or the guy who replaced users' pages with cocksucker, or a nutter from Canada who vandalised large numbers of articles using multiple sockpuppets. This template should only be used in extreme cases where someone is such a persistent vandal that Wikipedia ends up considering contacting a server, or the school they are doing the vandalism from, to report their activity. This has had to be done to avoid blocking entire IP ranges or access to Wikipedia from some school computers, etc. Wikipedia rarely goes that far, but has had to do that on occasions. The template is intended to remind persistent vandals that we will report their vandalism unless they stop. It has stopped a couple who ignored other warnings. An example of its usefulness: yesterday an anonymous user kept posting libellous comments about some person into the top of a series of articles (which would show up against that person's name in some searches. The vandal was repeatedly blocked, and the normal templates used against them, but they kept coming back. Finally this template was used, because it informed them not merely that they were being told to stop, but that Wikipedia could take action directly against them if they didn't. When they realised that they personally could face repercussions for their actions the vandalisms stopped immediately, removing the danger that Wikipedia could get in trouble for the libels they were posting.

This template is only needed in extreme cases but when all else fails it tends to work. That is why it is here. FearÉIREANN\^(caint) 17:02, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

"Action could be taken"?

What kind of action are we thinking of? Clearly not longer blocks, since that's already been mentioned. Jtdirl above said that "they personally could face repercussions for their actions". Surely this is an empty threat. Have we ever come close to persuing legal action against anyone? Could we? Just because a vandal is putting up libellous information about a third party on wikipedia, doesn't mean that we have any legal right to persue them outside of our site. We should not be making veiled legal threats, especially if we can't follow through with them. Can anyone explain this template further? — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 21:26, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

We can ToS them. If their ISP is their school or employer, the consequences can be more severe than simply having to get another ISP. --cesarb 22:17, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Edit to template

Could an admin add {{TestTemplatesNotice}} to the template (obviously in a <noinclude> section)? Test0-Test2 have them, and it'd be nice to have this sort of standardized. EVula 17:36, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
