Why unprintworthy?

[edit]

I am neutral as to the template's use of the unprintworthy category, but I want to make sure I understand the rationale. Is it mainly:

  1. Filenames are not generally notable independently from their associated software
  2. Most filenames are alphabetically close to their corresponding software, such that beginning to type the filename into the search box would show the software as a result (does WINWORD.EXE count as an exception?)

Or both, or neither? If neither, should we provide a |printworthy parameter to override the categorization (cf. corresponding feature of r from song)? --SoledadKabocha (talk) 06:18, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

To editor SoledadKabocha: Sorry for the very late response – this was one of the few rcats not on my watchlist. Both of your reasons work for me, and I'm not sure if the exception you noted is the exception, the rule or that there is an approximately equal mixture of filenames that are different and those that are similar search terms. In any case, I would have to agree with the one(s) who thought filenames to be unprintworthy redirects. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 04:29, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
