I created this template by uncluttering the Template:Units of pressure which I found to be difficult to read and to understand. I would appreciate any comments concerning this template as compared to Template:Units of pressure.

Great table

[edit]

Hey, this is a very helpful table. I have a few suggestions. First, what about including some further units, like Centimetre of water (mostly obsolate, but still widly used in medicine) and others. Second, I think it would be better to use the scientific notation in normalized form, so 1 psi = 7.0307×10−2 not 70.307×10−3. Timur lenk

I agree with the first point, and I'm neutral with concern to the second point. I think this table could also include inch of water and inch of mercury. -Verdatum (talk) 20:56, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heading case

[edit]

I've restored the WP:MOS-based capitalization of headings in this table. I noticed after doing so that an editor had decapitalized them a few years ago, saying "capitalizing unit names is misspelling". To head off further controversy about this, I re-quote the excerpt from The International System of Units brochure already quoted at Pascal (unit)#Origin:

When an SI unit is spelled out in English, it should always begin with a lowercase letter (pascal), except where any word would be capitalized, such as at the beginning of a sentence or in capitalized material such as a title.

(Actually, I just checked on the link from that article, and the current Section 5.2 hosted by BIPM still says essentially the same thing: "In English, the names of units start with a lower-case letter (even when the symbol for the unit begins with a capital letter), except at the beginning of a sentence or in capitalized material such as a title.")

Wikipedia style for table headings, like article titles and section headings, follows sentence-style capitalization. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 20:25, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
