How do I update this template?
[edit]I have added a new article stub called Stanbridge, Bedfordshire and I tried to use this template, but it doesn't seem to work correctly. I guess this is because I had to include ", Bedfordshire" in the name. Should I edit this template, is it generated in some automatic way? JonH 14:52, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- This template is created by an automatic script run by User:Rick Block, I have tried making a couple of changes to it and if you examine the code it becomes clear how to change the names of places are broken or the top and bottom of it. If you don't think you can do it I know how to change the names and links to individual places by hand, for any major changes such as the addition of new towns and villages (or the removal) you should contact User:Rick Block. - I have made the adjustments for you, by changing all instances of Stanbridge to Standbridge, Bedfordshire and where necessary adding |Stanbridge to it to remove the , Bedfordshire bit from view. Lcarsdata (Talk) 20:18, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Possible new template
[edit]Personally im not too keen on the current template so have designed this. Whilst in my view ia cloaer to Wiki normal styles its a bit big. Any feedback?GazMan7 09:49, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure whether this version is preferable, but I've tweaked some of the formatting, most importantly, the separators; unfortunately, these can appear too conspicuous, especially when printed. Hope this okay, David Kernow (talk) 10:23, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- This template has gone through several iterations, starting with one very much like the above (but without the show/hide). We should really have a site-wide standard for these things rather than decide them independently, template by template. I'll look around for a place to have this discussion and get it going. I know there are folks who violently detest the horizontally scrollable navigation bar which is currently used. I'll post a pointer to the discussion. -- Rick Block (talk) 18:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, Rick. I agree that a site-wide standard should benefit the encyclopedia and hope a consensus might be found. Regards, David (talk) 01:28, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm soliciting interest in a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Navigational templates. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:58, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Would it be possible to bring this template more inline with the rest of England ([1]), by using Template:County? Failing that, could an alternative Template:Bedfordshire use Template:County instead? The County-class template uses Nav box, and has more scope for the inclusion of portals, topics and districts, Template:Greater Manchester being a good example of this. --Jza84 | Talk 03:37, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
