optional parameter does nothing
[edit]The optional parameter doesn't appear to do anything. There's no tool tip. The glyph doesn't change. Why do we allow it? --Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:09, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Because it does do something. If you look at the code for the template, it shows that the optional parameter "{{{1}}}" is used in the image's alt text. If a user hovers their cursor over the icon (assuming they're not using popups like I am), they will see alt text that reads "Missed [optional text]"; i.e. if the parameter reads "over the bar", the alt text will read "Missed over the bar". It's not terrific wording, but that's why it's there. – PeeJay 20:35, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
minute?
[edit]Similar icons allow a minutes (min) parameter. Would that be desirable here, so we can show when the penalty was missed? --Jameboy (talk) 23:36, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hmm, that's assuming it can be used for penalties missed during regulation (as opposed to just shootouts). The documentation doesn't say anything about this, however. --Jameboy (talk) 23:42, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
- As you’ve spotted, this template is intended only for use in shootouts, since penalties missed in normal time don’t contribute to the score directly and thus don’t need to be listed anywhere. – PeeJay 00:20, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- OK, so I've had a first bash at adding a sentence to the documentation that makes this clear. --Jameboy (talk) 00:36, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Can any admin please add "| link=" to the image?
[edit]Can any admin please add "| link=" to the image?
