Scope of this template

[edit]

This template is not purely to cover elections held under the auspices of the PNA. It covers any elections held in what are today the Palestinian territories. This is in line with other templates such as {{Bangladeshi elections}}, which covers elections in British India, Pakistan (when Bangladesh was part of it) and the modern-day country.

As for removing the future elections, please refrain from doing so until the result of the AfDs. Until then the articles still exist and are legitimately linked. Number 57 07:13, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is the most ridiculous and absurd thing I have ever seen. The elections of the Mandate have absolutely nothing to do with modern Israel or the PA. It would be like including the presidents of the Articles of Confederations with the presidents of the Constitution. I am not familiar with the Bangladeshi setup, but it looks like they at least had continuously running elections the whole time. This has a 73 year gap. I think the 1923 should be removed from this template and the Israel template.--Metallurgist (talk) 22:00, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Number 57, this is not the way to promote your own articles. Make useful links in articles.
(I edited this earlier this morning; Apparently I did not safe it.--Wickey-nl (talk) 10:24, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Promoting my own articles? What on earth are you talking about? I have also reinstated the 1970s elections, as they were not "non-existing" - see this source, and have since started West Bank local elections, 1976. Number 57 10:33, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I welcome your article, but the elections were not Palestinian elections. They were Israeli and not democratic.--Wickey-nl (talk) 12:04, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you remove the articles from here again I'm afraid I will have to report you for edit warring. Per WP:BRD, they remain on until there is consensus for them to be removed. Regardless of what you think, the elections were held in the West Bank and Palestinians voted in them. Number 57 13:56, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Number 57: apparently you are the only one supporting this view here. The 1923 elections are clearly out of scope of present-day Palestine and so are 1970s elections.GreyShark (dibra) 18:43, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand the logic behind the complaints about the 1923 elections, but they need to be linked to from somewhere so that readers can see that there was previously an election in which Palestinians participated, and pretty much the only option is here (sometimes we have a separate template for countries that no longer exits (e.g. {{Soviet elections}}, {{Yugoslavian elections}}), but there would be no point in having a template just for the 1923 elections, so the best alternative, as far as I can see, is to include it on here. If people really think it's a problem, it can easily be identified using a footnote. However. I cannot see any rational reason why anyone would have a problem with the 1970s local elections.
I guess I am the only one "supporting this view" as I am the only editor currently involved in this debate who is familiar with how these election templates are used for other countries. We commonly try and fit in all elections that have happened in a territory over its history, whether they were during its colonial era or took place under a variety of regimes.
