United States info
[edit]I consider the Japanese Ministry of Education List of overseas nihonjin gakko Japanese schools in North America (Archive). Guam is included in its list of North America. Spanish-speaking regions, Mexico and south, are not included.
This is the list of overseas private school branches (Archive). - This includes the day schools in the Atlanta and Los Angeles areas and the boarding school near New York City.
Former Japanese schools are listed here (Archive).
I used United States as the section name for North America schools:
- Canada has no Japanese day schools nor Japanese boarding schools
- MEXT excludes the other North American countries from its definition of North America
MEXT never placed the International Bilingual School in its 1999 list of nihonjin gakko (Archive) nor its 2000 list of shiritsu zaigai kyoiku shisetsu (Archive). It's also not mentioned on MEXT's list of closed schools (Archive). Therefore I should mention that IBS was unrecognized by MEXT. WhisperToMe (talk) 14:02, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
Latin America info
[edit]This is based off of the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) list of Japanese schools in Latin America (Archive). MEXT puts Spanish-speaking North America and South America together.
Former Japanese schools are listed here (Archive). WhisperToMe (talk) 14:03, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
Middle East info
[edit]This list is based on the Japanese education ministry's classification of the Middle East (Archive) - Schools on the African continent are NOT included. Turkey is included.

This list has Shitennoji: http://web.archive.org/web/20000928224128/http://www.naec.go.jp/kaigai/pschool.html - http://www.webcitation.org/6XpCcbMNs WhisperToMe (talk) 14:09, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
High school info
[edit]I found the list of Japanese overseas high schools here: http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/koutou/shikaku/07111314/004.htm - http://www.webcitation.org/6Wi1q4BHy
Keep in mind this is different from the shiritsu zaigai list in two ways:
- 1. Shanghai Japanese School is a nihonjin gakkō and not a shiritsu zaigai
- 2. Two shiritsu zaigai schools in the United States, Seigakuin Atlanta and Nishiyamato Academy of California, do not have senior high school programs.
MEXT does not list the Liceo Mexicano Japones in its high school program list. Even though LMJ has senior high school, this only applies to its Mexican program, not its Japanese program. The Japanese program ends at the 9th grade. WhisperToMe (talk) 14:15, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
Closed shiritsu Zaigai kyoiku shisetsu

- 英国四天王寺学園 (UK) Done

Another list of private schools (including nonboarding) is here: http://web.archive.org/web/20130215023941/http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/shotou/clarinet/002/006/001/003.htm - http://www.webcitation.org/6Wi1RXfSd
It mentions South Queensland Academy and Josuikan Bangkok International School
I'm guessing the Bremen and Shittenno closed in the late 1990s or early 2000s? That makes finding info on them very difficult!
