Hawaii

[edit]

I do not believe Hawaii is considered part of North America. As you can see, Hawaiian birds are not on the list of North American birds. -- Basar 17:29, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Area covered

[edit]

Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, and Puerto Rico are not a part of North America as defined by the list of North American birds (which follows the ABA). I think it makes sense to follow the article which is linked in the header of the template. Basar 18:55, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Central America

[edit]

Countries such as Guatemala and Costa Rica are in Central America, which is itself part of North America. See the Wikipedia article about North America — it lists the various countries of Central America as being within North America. The Encyclopedia Britannica (https://www.britannica.com/place/Central-America) says "Central America, southernmost region of North America, lying between Mexico and South America and comprising Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Belize." So should these 7 countries be included in the template? LumaP15 (talk) 01:49, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

These are lists of birds, so when I reversed your Guatemala addition I was using the American Ornithological Society's geography, which distinguishes Middle America from North America. But for consistency with the Wiki North America article, it's legitimate to include the M.A. countries in the template. Have at it! Craigthebirder (talk) 01:58, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
