Red Peak Inclusion

[edit]

I have to question whether including only one of the 5 finalists of the proposed new flags on this template comes across as fair with regards to the other 4 options. If anything, all 5 should be listed together under a section with "Proposals". I would rather others weigh in on this before editing. Pharos04 (talk) 13:14, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and have added a new row to show the five alternatives. You can modify as needed. They link to Silver fern flag and Koru flag, which should be elaborated for the referendums.+mt 19:38, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tino rangatiratanga flag

[edit]

Why is the Tino rangatiratanga flag classed here as a national flag? Last time I checked NZ only had one national flag. Kiwichris (talk) 06:35, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It needs to be described in that article, but according to Te Ara, "In the 2000s the tino rangatiratanga (Māori sovereignty) flag was accepted as a national flag". +mt 20:35, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The full quote follows:
"In the 2000s the tino rangatiratanga (Māori sovereignty) flag was accepted as a national flag for Māori, and debate continued over whether the country needed a new national flag, with suggestions including koru, kiwi and silver ferns."
I Propose we add a separate row for Māori flags to avoid confusion on this. Kiwichris (talk) 09:36, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why an extra row for one flag is necessary. There is plenty of horizontal space, and "(Maori)" appears next to the item in attempt to diffuse confusion. +mt 20:31, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In the usage guidelines here, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage state that the Tino rangatiratanga flag does not carry any official status and is merely a symbol that may complement the official New Zealand flag. To me that indicates it shouldn't be classed here as a national flag. Kiwichris (talk) 10:28, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously there is only one official flag, but the Tino Rangatiratanga flag is still widely regarded as a national flag (more on that here), therefore I don't see any issue with it appearing as a national flag. You could put "(official)" after the the official one if you wish, but I don't see why there needs to be two separate rows for this template. +mt 01:59, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I just think that having both on the same level as one another implies they are both equally official as New Zealand's national flag. As a result I would like to avoid giving unaware users the wrong impression. Kiwichris (talk) 07:44, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
