Characters

[edit]

If a character has an article, why not include them here regardless of their status (regular, recurring, past, present)? –anemoneprojectors10:00, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bump ;) –anemoneprojectors22:06, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have always wanted this. I still think it is a good idea.Rain the 1 BAM 22:12, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did think about this a while ago and probably forgot to mention it. Rain, if you wanted this, why didn't you bring it up? The thing about the Neighbours recurring characters is there are so few long term ones these days. I don't want to be constantly adding and removing characters. Chris is the last recurring character to become a regular (and he's becoming one from Monday by the looks of it) and what about Tim Collins and Veronica? They don't have articles or links to a cast list, so they can't be added to the template. Now I believe Veronica hasn't appeared since 2008, so she could be left off, but Tim is still around and has been for a while. If I finish the 2001 cast list, then he'll have a link, but I've got a few other things I need to get done first. I don't particularly want to leave off one of the longest running recurring characters in the show. - JuneGloom Talk 22:25, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We'd have to link every single character, then decide what order, then decide who should be there - then have IP's changing it every day. Shyd away from it. Could always add Tim later though if you wanna get started?.Rain the 1 BAM 22:45, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just saying include characters with articles. Past ones too. In alphabetical order, probably. Forget lists. The lists will also be in the template. –anemoneprojectors22:50, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@Rain. That's the thing I don't want IPs or new editors (as it tends to be them) changing the info every day, I have better things to do then chase after them. Some recurring characters, like Tomas, leave for while and just when you think they're gone for good (and you remove them from the table/template), they come back again. AP could you knock up an example of your idea, I'm not sure I can picture what you have in mind? - JuneGloom Talk 22:57, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Like these two right? Template:EastEnders characters and Template:Hollyoaks characters - Corrie has most topics combined in theirs.Rain the 1 BAM 23:04, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Don't have to copy those, just something like User:AnemoneProjectors/Neighbours. It might be better to separate past and present. But if you're worried about someone like Tomas Bersky, then don't include him because he's in a list. –anemoneprojectors23:17, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Every recurring character in the current table, except Chris (atm), is on a list, so there won't be any recurring characters to add. I like your idea though. - JuneGloom Talk 23:29, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
ok, well I only suggested it because I saw you reverting Chris's addition, but I would expect him to be there as he's a character with an article. I'll leave the past ones up to you but with EastEnders we found having all the characters in one template was much better than using those family member templates that we came up with, and I deleted them all when I made the characters navbox. –anemoneprojectors23:34, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The sad thing is if Chris wasn't gay, he'd be in a list too. I don't mind the family templates, they're rarely edited and there haven't been too many new members of the familes with templates cropping up. I think the new Ramsays in 2009 was the last major change to one of those. I'll get some sleep and then steal your Neighbours template example in the morning and see what it looks like with all the past characters on it. Thanks for doing that, btw. - JuneGloom Talk 23:42, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, the storylines section will (one day) have a few more articles to link to, but the merge is good for now. :) - JuneGloom Talk 23:45, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have made two versions in my sandbox. I like the second version Eastenders and Hollyoaks use, a seperate set for characters. I think the other one makes the template buldge. Only thing is, I'd leave it up to you where to group everything on the actual stand alone Neighbours template if you use the second idea.Rain the 1 BAM 01:51, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realise there were so many character articles for Neighbours! You're clearly all doing a good job. Yeah having a separate one like EE might be a good idea as there are so many. But it would have to be added to all articles. This one should probably be renamed to just "Template:Neighbours" as well. –anemoneprojectors09:30, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Junegloom and I have dedicated our souls to Neighbours. =) What do you think June?Rain the 1 BAM 13:25, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Some of those character still need a lot of work (and some need articles), but we're getting there. It's funny, but I really dislike having two templates. I don't see why it couldn't be left as it was, it worked all this time. But never mind, C'est la vie. :) - JuneGloom Talk 22:43, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I like the idea of more people clicking on the older characters. Don't be scared of change. :P I think Chris should be added, but I can wait until next week. I think if the character is present and notable, then why not. Maybe it is a little in universe to keep waiting until they appear non guest in the credits. I'm only saying if it is a Kirsten, Chris, Diana, Lana type character.Rain the 1 BAM 22:57, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

() It's definitely right to have all the characters in a template, as the only way to navigate to them was via one of the list articles. I just think it's silly only including "present" characters. We used to do that in EastEnders as well, and we came up with the family templates as a way to get more articles linked together, but some had four templates and it was excessive, and they became meaningless as well. I think putting them all in the main template would have made it excessively large, and I don't like the Coronation Street format, so I think copying the EastEnders format is ideal. –anemoneprojectors23:17, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And I agree with Rain about adding Chris. He's notable, he's a character, he's got an article, so add him. I don't see the point in not including him just because he isn't being considered a regular yet. If you're now including past characters, you can include guest ones. –anemoneprojectors23:19, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
