[edit]Should this be deleted? See this. A template like this was deleted, however the sport was instead baseball. --Vzomg 21:16, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Unreadable
[edit]You shouldn't set the background independently from the text color. The text colors are selected to have sufficient contrast to the background, so they can't be set independently. Please discuss here before doing something else. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:40, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Plastikspork: Did you not see this edit diff I left here? I mean, my goal was to ensure that the wiki-code markup is WP:CONTRAST compliant. Right now, as it is currently used, we would never use black text on a pewter background, as that would violate WP:CONTRAST guidelines. All I was trying to accomplish was using
"[Gridiron primary style]"
in the below style over at Template:NFL roster while simultaneously using"[Gridiron secondary color]"
over at Template:NFL Roster template list. Yes, I'm aware that the end result is white text over at Template:NFL Roster template list, but the end result is that when a user clicks on Template:Buffalo Bills roster (for example), the footer text is readable. If you have different ideas as to how to construct the wiki-code markup, then please, by all means, be my guest. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 22:56, 4 January 2021 (UTC)- Charlesaaronthompson, I don't see what is wrong with what is there right now. Looking at your version you have a different font color for every link, but the same background color for the entire block. This is clearly going to cause problems! Having a single background color and font color for the entire block is the best solution. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:05, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Plastikspork: I only did that because I was trying to appease you. The way it is wiki-coded now, you have a situation for example over at Template:Buffalo Bills roster where the text color in the Template:NFL Roster template list footer is black , but the background color in the block is red . That violates the concept behind WP:CONTRAST. All I was trying to accomplish was to ensure that the text colors for all 32 NFL team roster templates over at Template:NFL Roster template list were either white or black , and then to use each team's primary color as the background color in the block over at Template:NFL roster. Does that help explain what I was trying to accomplish? I mean, yes, I'm aware that the end result is white white text on a white background, but I honestly feel like that's my best way to wiki-code it. It's similar to, say, Template:Atlanta Falcons Draft template list, for example. That's what I was trying to accomplish. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:18, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Charlesaaronthompson: Okay, I see and have fixed the issue. (1) It's really inefficient to be calling the same style templates 32 times, so I have moved the style declaration outside of this template, (2) Since the only template that uses this one is Template:NFL roster we can set the style there, which will make sure the definitions stay synchronized, and also addresses the efficiency issue. Let me know if you see any new problems. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:29, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Even better would be to use the WP:NHL method of border coloring, rather than constantly struggling with the background/foreground contrast problem. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:32, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

- @Plastikspork: I also want to thank you for fixing this! This really was what I was trying to fix. I appreciate what you've done here. @Eagles247: I'm sorry for accusing you of engaging in an edit-war with me over this. From now on, I will do better to use the sandbox first before repeatedly trying to force through changes. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:41, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Mainspace inclusion
[edit]- @Plastikspork: Would it be OK to remove
"[template other|1=]"
template from Template:NFL roster? I would really love to display Template:NFL Roster template list at the bottom of each team's roster template on each team's main article. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:46, 4 January 2021 (UTC)- Better would be to have those links go to article sections. We generally discourage linking from article-space to template-space for content. @Eagles247 and Frietjes: What do yo think? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:58, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Plastikspork: See the TfD for this template (Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2011_November_30#Template:NFL_Roster_template_list), I believe the compromise towards even keeping the footer was that they don't appear in article-space as unnecessary clutter. I'd be opposed. Eagles 24/7 (C) 04:13, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Plastikspork: The template-other solution keeps it out of article space, and extra cross-linking between all the NFL team articles seems excessive to me. Frietjes (talk) 19:41, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Plastikspork: I've reverted Charlesaaronthompson making the change to Template:NFL roster ([1]) despite the input from editors here against the change. Not sure how this can be seen as anything other than disruptive. Eagles 24/7 (C) 23:14, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- This does seem disruptive. For now, I have increased the protection level. Hopefully this helps direct the discussion to the talk page. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:24, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

- @Eagles247: OK... I still don't understand why we need to keep Template:Template other in Template:NFL roster. I don't understand why the roster footer should be kept out of article space. I understand that there's consensus against removing it, but why? Please explain? Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 23:56, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Charlesaaronthompson: It doesn't seem to make much sense to have links to templates like Template:New Orleans Saints roster and Template:Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster over at Philadelphia Eagles. On Template:Philadelphia Eagles roster, however, it is much more meaningful to display those links. Eagles 24/7 (C) 00:28, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hide from mainspace but keep for editors doing maintenance. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 10:27, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
