Mysteries list

[edit]

Monotype made a lot of fonts, sometimes under rather obscure names, and for some of them there's not much information online.

For future reference (& in case I have to stop working on this), here's a list of more obscure Monotype faces that could do with being tracked down. Key online sources are the Alembic and Parnassia lists. I'm planning to go to a reference library - Bodleian, Guildhall or British presumably, to look some of this up.

  • Bruce Rogers, n. 494/594
  • Chatsworth
  • Chiswell Old Face - Rookledge has image
  • Condensa - Rookledge has image
  • Daily Mail Modern
  • Deutsch Komisch (maybe blackletter?)
  • Devonshire
  • Divina Comedia
  • Dorchester Script
  • Emery
  • Fabritius
  • French Face Extended
  • French Modern
  • French Old Style
  • Fridericus Antiqua
  • Glamour Bold - apparently based on Corvinus, designed on Imre Reiner
  • Gloucester (just their name for ripping off Cheltenham or more than that?)
  • Grock - an Art Deco display design, see mr_35_1
  • Grosvenor Script
  • Grovura
  • Gwendolin
  • Gustavus
  • Indicateur
  • Iroquois Condensed
  • Jacno - presumably based on something by Marcel Jacno
  • Jocunda

  • Laud Old Style
  • Lectern Missal
  • LPTB Titling (presumably Johnston)
  • Mardersteig (may be either Mardersteig design)
