"Clue levels"?

- If someone's being a pain then you can re-adjust their attitude by giving them a whack with a minnow. ~~ Dr Dec (Talk) ~~ 19:20, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Um
[edit]Can someone please give me a clear definition of what this is? RTY1998 (talk) 17:40, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- It's basically a waste of time and space, and more rude than funny (unless to a friend, and even then only funny once if that). I'd just ignore it. IainUK talk 23:13, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- If someone accidentally does something dumb, (i.e. an admin deleting the wrong page, a person adding erroneous information), put a trout on their talk page and explain to them under it what they did wrong.--vgmddg (look | talk | do) 23:48, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Strongly disagree with the "waste of time and space" comment above. Troutslapping is something that I personally encourage so as to give others a way to criticize me without feeling like they are being rude. I think that the templates for trout-slapping should be expanded to include minnow-slapping and whale-slapping. Guy Macon (talk) 21:01, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Tiny Mistake
[edit]Could this also be used if an experienced user makes a small mistake? (i.e. using a minnow if someone accidentally adds erroneous info to a page, whereas a trout would be awarded for Don't delete the main page.)
- Deleting the main page would get you a whale. Guy Macon 13:58, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Whacking with a Wet Trout
[edit]There is a discussion related to troutslapping at Wikipedia talk:Whacking with a Wet Trout#The trout is huge... Guy Macon (talk) 11:44, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
CSS flexibility
[edit]I added code to make this more usable in more circumstance, like floated to the right of a talk page post. See the /doc.— Preceding unsigned comment added by SMcCandlish (talk • contribs) 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- @SMcCandlish This doesn't work for me tho. See the minnow below I'm slapping you with since you forgot to sign. Aaron Liu (talk) 14:28, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Plip!
- I'm also using the new vector skin. That could be the reason. Aaron Liu (talk) 14:28, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, it may need some adjustment by now. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 18:44, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- It works on Template:Minnow/testcases, so there may be something about talk page coding that is affecting it these days. I'm not sure. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 18:53, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, it may need some adjustment by now. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 18:44, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Plip!
- It works when put on a line by itself (not inside a list item). — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 18:55, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Plip!
- It seems to fail inside any kind of list item. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 18:55, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- I've updated the documentation now. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 18:57, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
