Image border w/ frameless option

[edit]

@Evolution and evolvability: We may need to tweak {{AI4}} to permit a "framed/frame" option analogous to the option with the same name in the standard image syntax (Wikipedia:Extended image syntax#Brief syntax). I say this because I noticed that Template:MetabolismMap adds about 15px of spacing between the top/bottom of the metabolic metro image and the top/bottom table borders on my browser (the image border currently displays as 812px by 632px in Chrome on my laptop - the width of this border is set in the source of Template:MetabolismMap as 810px; the 2px extra seems to just automatically added padding). This table border should ideally be displaying with a width of 812px and height of 612px; i.e., there should be a 6px margin between the outer table border and interior top+bottom+left+right sides of the AI4-templated image). Unfortunately, the table border is adding about 16px of padding at the top+bottom instead of the 6px which is used at the left+right sides.

I can fix the excess spacing between the bottom of the image and the bottom border in Template:MetabolismMap by adding the following bolded text to the first line of the source code of this template (Template:Metabolic metro); however, I can't seem to fix the spacing at the top of Template:MetabolismMap by tinkering with this div syntax:

{{#if:{{{exploded|}}}|<div style="border:solid #ccc 1px; width:810px; height:618px; margin: 0 auto">}}<!--
NB: I added this syntax in Special:diff/831817094/844299716 and subsequently reverted these changes.

What do you think: should we use this partial fix – either temporarily or indefinitely – or should we work on adding functionality for framed images in {{AI4}}? Seppi333 (Insert ) 01:14, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the top/bottom image borders of the Template:MetabolismMap (framed) and Template:Metabolic metro map (thumbnail) versions of the navbox image map; the issue I'm referring to really stands out when comparing them. That said, a simpler, alternative solution would be to simply replace the source code of Template:MetabolismMap with the source code of Template:Metabolic metro map; the former template is transcluded into a lot of articles.
