- an annual event
- in the state of Minnesota
- on mostly paved surfaces (as opposed to trail racing marathons, such as those on the Superior Hiking Trail--these could be included in a broader category, such as "Foot races in Minnesota.")
- certified by USATF as 26.2 miles long
- active (as opposed to discontinued, like the Stillwater Marathon or the Minneapolis Marathon)
