Qualifying stations

[edit]

@PhilipTerryGraham: I've been looking at the GSR stations navbox, and I was wondering what the inclusion criteria is for stations? The Overland service is a daily commuter service from Adelaide to Melbourne and actually stops at the stations listed, as reflected in the official time table provided by GSR.[1][2] However, The Ghan[3] and the Indian Pacific[4] are tourist/holiday-orientated services and stop far less frequently and only for off-train excursions in select local towns along the route. Is it therefore appropriate to include stations that are passed by these services but are not actually stopped at? The current service timetables do not list the stations in question, nor do the old 2014-15 timetables that are used to reference "[x] is served by GSR's The Ghan and Indian Pacific services" on each station's articles.[5] I was wondering what inclusion criteria were used so that the stations can either stay listed or be removed. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 23:40, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick Mitchell 98: I should state that I had no prior intimate knowledge of the GSR services before I created this navbox. I mostly got my information on what stations were on these routes from timetables on the official websites for the services and what information was available on Wikipedia at the time. I don't have any criteria or anything like that, I was simply trying my best to compile a list of stations on each route. If I got anything wrong, I apologise. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 23:47, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing wrong, I was just wondering if you had used a system to add stations. No trouble at all, I can correct them. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 23:50, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Great Southern

[edit]

Should the Great Southern train's stations be added to this list? I'm aware that the Acacia Ridge Terminal in Brisbane does not have a Wiki article though. It's also more of a holiday rather than an actual rail service, so I would be on the edge of adding it. Fork99 (talk) 00:48, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Fork99: I've now added them. LivelyRatification (talk) 03:45, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of stations

[edit]

I'm a bit unsure about the inclusion of certain stations here under The Ghan and Indian Pacific sections. While the Indian Pacific, for example, does stop at Broken Hill, this is only for a "excursion", and no passengers can board or get off at Broken Hill, at least according to the portal, which only allows me to book from Adelaide, Perth, or Sydney. For The Ghan, it's Adelaide, Alice Springs, or Darwin. I'm of the mind that these stops shouldn't be included, as while the train does technically stop there, the purpose of the stop is only for their existing passengers to have a look around, for lack of a better word. --LivelyRatification (talk) 03:53, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
