Italics for poems
[edit]Following WP:ITALICS, shouldn't the poems' titles, except the epic poem Hermann and Dorothea, the cycle Roman Elegies, and the collection West-östlicher Diwan, appear without italics?
Also, the sort term for the Category:Plays by author templates should probably be "Goethe Works" to make it show up under "G", not "Works by Goethe" which sorts it under "W". -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 04:51, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the hints, I am just going to change that. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 08:42, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Is it o.k. like this: [ [Category:Plays by author templates|Goethe works] ] ? --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 08:50, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Origin of the source code
[edit]I have taken over the source code frame from Template:Works by Gogol. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 08:44, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

English for Kampagne in Frankreich
[edit]Is there a common English title for Goethe`s autobiographical report of his engagement in the French-German war Kampagne in Frankreich? It would be good to choose any English title, for the beginning, because also Goethe`s Italian Journey is mentioned with its English title, in the template. If we should later find that the chosen title was not ideal, we would still be able to move a possibly emerging new article on the work to a better catchword. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 14:45, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Whatever the title should be, adding a red link to anvigation template is unhelpful. I have removed it. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 00:33, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- Why should a redlink in a navigation template be unhelpful, at any rate? I, actually, even had a little bit a bad conscience because I had, so far, not yet added any redlinks to this template, the image of the Template:Works by Gogol in mind, from which I had taken over the source code.
- I have added this redlink after I had widened the article on Goethe`s main autobiographical work, Dichtung und Wahrheit. Goethe has written three main autobiographical works, altogether: Dichtung und Wahrheit, Italian Journey, and Kampagne in Frankreich. I was satisfied that one could find out about Italian Journey, at the bottom of the Dichtung und Wahrheit page, via the template and its subsection Autobiographical works. Now, I, but, feared, that quite a lot of readers could start wondering: "What was the title of that third main autobiographical work by Goethe?" I thought it would appear quite confusing to have a section "See also" just with a link to Italian Journey and a redlink to Kampagne in Frankreich (Italian Journey showing up also in the template, at the same time). To mention those both titles in the lead could also get quite complicated, even though it might be possible — it could be difficult to do this, mainly for me, personally, because of my wanting knowledge of English. At any rate, it would be good to have a possibility to find out about Kampagne in Frankreich when one reads the Dichtung und Wahrheit page, without checking through other pages with a considerable loss of time. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 09:09, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Categories
[edit]Hi Michael Bednarek, thanks for the spelling fixes. There is some rule and reg somewhere that categories shouldn't be listed or linked on templates, which seems counter-productive but there we go. There are a few template 'guidelines' which limit linked information and information channels on templates, and category links are banished from them. An odd way to put a wall between information and accessibility. Randy Kryn 12:56, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- I know there is a rule somewhere to that effect. I can't be bothered trying to find it because I agree that it's counterproductive and it ought to be ignored occasionally. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:10, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- I don't add them, but don't delete them when I find them. Categories and things like allowing three or four sister-site links at the bottom of the template (Wikisource, Wikiquotes, etc.) seem like perfect template matches for researchers and casual readers. Both those topics/guidelines will hopefully be revisited and changed at some point. Randy Kryn 14:36, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
