Arkansas' use of US Route shields

Could the template abbreviations for Arkansas highways be changed to AR ## instead of Hwy. ##? Destination signs in the state read "↑ Jct AR 112" instead of the current "↑ Jct Hwy 112". Also, Arkansas still uses the 1961 US route markers (don't ask me why) except for 3-digit routes, which use a monster-size font. Brandonrush Woooooooo pig sooie 16:40, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

My only concern is that we follow "official" convention (if their is one) and not any convention used on any roadgeek site. For example, most roadgeek sites uses a state abbreviation, as they deal with highways in all 50 states, (i.e. CA-49 for California State Route 49, NV-49 for Nevada State Route 49, etc.). However, it is clear that Caltrans and Nevada DOT do not use these abbreviations, they both use SR. Of course, as many states use the SR convention, it would be impractical for a roadgeek site to do so. However, wikipedia should follow official conventions if they exist. If the Arkansas DOT does indeed use AR in their official documents, I'm ok with it.Dave (talk) 15:49, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

There is precedent for this, U.S. Route 30 in Iowa is one I know of, also the articles for Interstate highways in Utah, California and Oregon use tweaked versions of the shield to reflect local variations. Dave (talk) 23:44, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Per [2], AR has adopted the 2009 MUTCD without a supplement. That means officially, they're using the current specs, not the 1961 ones. Sorry, no change. Imzadi 1979 → 01:02, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Interesting. The AHTD recently started re-signing I-540 upon Fay/Springdale/Bentonville/Rogers becoming designated as urban, using 1961 shields without fail. And if they had an inventory of the old ones, they might have wanted to use them up first. Then again, in Michigan, US 131 is variously signed using two-digit or three-digit markers depending on which MDOT region the replacements were installed or what signs they had in stock. I just hope there is someone in Little Rock that knows what this district is doing. I hope these shiny new-looking high-intensity prismatic signs aren't fresh off the press. I don't even know what kind of policy there is to get it unlocked. But this is the case with many US routes. For instance, currently US 412 in Arkansas uses a different font. Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 17:28, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

space between banner and shield

I-80 / US 93 Alt.
I've noticed recently a space between banners and their shields below, as I'm seeing demonstrated above. I don't recall that being there. Has there been a change in the code, am I just remembering incorrectly, or is it just my browser? -- LJ ↗ 14:45, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Arkansas spur routes

Is there any way an Arkansas state highway spur route could have a type similar to its business routes? The business routes are currently entered using "Hwy-Bus" and a "Hwy-Spur" would be useful so that the dab1 function can be used to link to the correct spur. The dab# can be specified for any type of highway, so long as the subtemplates for that type are set up to use the dab. Now {{jct|state=AR|AR|7S||dab1=Marble Falls}} will produce: AR 7S with a link to Arkansas Highway 7S (Marble Falls). Enjoy. Imzadi 1979 → 18:55, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

{{edit protected}} Copy {{Jct/shield/USA/sandbox}} → {{Jct/shield/USA}}

Add the following code to {{Jct/shield/USA}} in the section on US Highway shields

 |MI={{#ifeq:{{{route}}}|141|US 141 (WI).svg|US {{route}}.svg}}

This will change US 141 in MI to use the same shield as WI, which is what is predominately used along the MI sections of highway. Imzadi 1979 → 21:16, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
