PEI shields are a go!
Can someone update {{Infobox road}} and {{jct}} to include the new PEI route markers? commons:Category:Prince Edward Island Highway shields. --Admrboltz (talk) 00:34, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Doing... –Fredddie™ 01:00, 14 January 2011 (UTC)- Done. I added an #ifexist so it will only display those files that exist. –Fredddie™ 01:30, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

BC shields are go!
I have uploaded a full slate of British Columbia highway shields to the Commons. Can {{jct}} be updated to recognize them? Thanks. -- Denelson83 06:31, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Arkansas' use of US Route shields
I believe that Arkansas uses the 1961 U.S. Route shields for two digit routes. Brandonrush Woooooooo pig sooie 22:47, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Fixes for Arkansas uses of Template:Jct
Could the template abbreviations for Arkansas highways be changed to AR ## instead of Hwy. ##? Destination signs in the state read "↑ Jct AR 112" instead of the current "↑ Jct Hwy 112". Also, Arkansas still uses the 1961 US route markers (don't ask me why) except for 3-digit routes, which use a monster-size font. Brandonrush Woooooooo pig sooie 16:40, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- My concern is that [1] uses Hwy. ##. On the other hand, they use Highway for state and US highways. –Fredddie™ 03:31, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- My only concern is that we follow "official" convention (if their is one) and not any convention used on any roadgeek site. For example, most roadgeek sites uses a state abbreviation, as they deal with highways in all 50 states, (i.e. CA-49 for California State Route 49, NV-49 for Nevada State Route 49, etc.). However, it is clear that Caltrans and Nevada DOT do not use these abbreviations, they both use SR. Of course, as many states use the SR convention, it would be impractical for a roadgeek site to do so. However, wikipedia should follow official conventions if they exist. If the Arkansas DOT does indeed use AR in their official documents, I'm ok with it.Dave (talk) 15:49, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- I emailed someone at AHTD, but it is a crapshoot if I will get a response back this decade. What about changing the US routes to show 1961 shields? Brandonrush Woooooooo pig sooie 18:22, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- There is precedent for this, U.S. Route 30 in Iowa is one I know of, also the articles for Interstate highways in Utah, California and Oregon use tweaked versions of the shield to reflect local variations. Dave (talk) 23:44, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- I can't speak for the other states, but with the Iowa shield set, there is a source to back it up. –Fredddie™ 00:39, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- Per [2], AR has adopted the 2009 MUTCD without a supplement. That means officially, they're using the current specs, not the 1961 ones. Sorry, no change. Imzadi 1979 → 01:02, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

- Interesting. The AHTD recently started re-signing I-540 upon Fay/Springdale/Bentonville/Rogers becoming designated as urban, using 1961 shields without fail. I thought since these were the newest shields made in the state, they would be up to code. Guess not. Brandonrush Woooooooo pig sooie 01:19, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- And if they had an inventory of the old ones, they might have wanted to use them up first. Then again, in Michigan, US 131 is variously signed using two-digit or three-digit markers depending on which MDOT region the replacements were installed or what signs they had in stock. Not all signs, especially relatively common ones, are newly fabricated at the time of installation. Imzadi 1979 → 04:00, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- I just hope there is someone in Little Rock that knows what this district is doing. I hope these shiny new-looking high-intensity prismatic signs aren't fresh off the press. Hopefully they are just inventory. It's always like pulling teeth getting information from the AHTD. Brandonrush Woooooooo pig sooie 17:57, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- You should take some pictures of these signs (and the road) for two reasons. One, you can show us exactly what you mean. And two, you can use them in articles. –Fredddie™ 22:28, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- At right is seventeen US 62 shields along/adjacent to the route. This illustrates how the road is signed in Arkansas. Brandonrush Woooooooo pig sooie 03:34, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I no longer have a problem with the switch. The problem lies now that the subtemplate we need is locked down. –Fredddie™ 22:56, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

- I don't even know what kind of policy there is to get it unlocked. But this is the case with many US routes. For instance, currently US 412 in Arkansas uses a different font. Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 17:28, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Also, I received an email response from the AHTD, who stated (on the Hwy/AR issue) "There are no set rules on this and sometimes it's a matter of preference to the person who is logging the road for new or replacement signs". Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 18:31, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

- So AR 1 and Highway 1 are both acceptable? Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 17:28, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, in the text, provided that there is some consistency to usage. That assumes, that like all abbreviations, that they are defined on first usage. Imzadi 1979 → 17:39, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Like in the lead here? Is an (AR ##) sufficient? Also, state newspapers usually call state highways "Arkansas ##"... Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 03:09, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- (AR # and Hwy. #) should be sufficient. –Fredddie™ 03:35, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

- In a related matter, can this template be changed to link to the 1926 highway shields using maybe a |AR-old paramater? Something like Hwy. 1 for this page? Brandonrush Woo pig sooie 01:13, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- An "AR 1926" parameter would be better, and yes, it can be added at some point. Imzadi 1979 → 01:59, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
space between banner and shield
I-80 / US 93 Alt.
I've noticed recently a space between banners and their shields below, as I'm seeing demonstrated above. I don't recall that being there. Has there been a change in the code, am I just remembering incorrectly, or is it just my browser? -- LJ ↗ 14:45, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- No code changes recently that I know. Imzadi 1979 → 19:18, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
Arkansas spur routes
Is there any way an Arkansas state highway spur route could have a type similar to its business routes? The business routes are currently entered using "Hwy-Bus" and a "Hwy-Spur" would be useful so that the dab1 function can be used to link to the correct spur. (For instance on this page the different AR 7S could be pointed to the correct spur) Brandonrush Wooooo pig sooie 17:59, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- The dab# can be specified for any type of highway, so long as the subtemplates for that type are set up to use the dab. Now
{{jct|state=AR|AR|7S||dab1=Marble Falls}}
will produce: AR 7S with a link to Arkansas Highway 7S (Marble Falls). Enjoy. Imzadi 1979 → 18:55, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Edit request from Imzadi1979, 13 October 2011
{{edit protected}} Copy {{Jct/shield/USA/sandbox}} → {{Jct/shield/USA}}
|MI={{#ifeq:{{{route}}}|141|US 141 (WI).svg|US {{route}}.svg}}
This will change US 141 in MI to use the same shield as WI, which is what is predominately used along the MI sections of highway. Imzadi 1979 → 21:16, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- OK, I have made the changes, plus an old request for Arkansas, to {{Jct/shield/USA/sandbox}}. They can now be copied over to the editrequested template. Thanks. –Fredddie™ 02:05, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

The 'edit protected' says, an editor unfamiliar with the subject matter could complete the requested edit immediately - which does not apply here; it's a bit too technical. So, I've placed a request on Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Two_technical_requests - and I'll check back here too; but I tn'd the request, here, for now - while it is done.
