2014 Testing

Good Afternoon, Ktr101 can you test the infobox on a couple of your airport articles by changing the infobox name to military installation/sandbox and previewing the article (but NOT saving) to see if everything works please.

I am testing Royal Air Force and Royal Navy airports at the minute. Gavbadger (talk) 13:51, 28 January 2014 (UTC) edited again by Gavbadger (talk) 20:38, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

My only concerns are that the "build" parameter only allows for a year, so if we are talking about something that works over multiple years, we should allow for both a start date and end date. Also, the second image might run into an issue on Air Force articles, as a lot of people have placed major command emblems under the native name. Finally, I wonder if we could make it so that the images will automatically be a certain size and won't need the thumbnail aspect, as it would make it more user-friendly (I know it will break a lot of templates at first, but we could run a bot to fix it in the interim). Kevin Rutherford (talk) 17:35, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

The coordinates are also not showing up for me, and I have tried to enter them with the Coord template and putting them in right below in the parameters provided. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 17:40, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

1) Normally for buildings which takes over a year it normally goes like 1994-6 with the 1994 in the special format and the "-6" outside of it.
2) The second image parameter shows up underneath all the occupants half way down the infobox, so the emblems at the top are unaffected.
3) Unfortunately I have no idea about the automation of image sizes and bots so someone will need to deal with that if it's possible.
4) I will have a look at the co-ords now. Gavbadger (talk) 17:43, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Try the co-ords again please, can you try adding | coordinates = {{Coord|51|45|00|N|001|35|01|W|region:GB_type:airport|display=inline}} (replacing with your local coordinates of course) as well secondly. Gavbadger (talk) 17:58, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
In response to the images, the command images are put there under image2, which is higher for the airport articles. In terms of automation, all we would have to do is copy what other templates do (they invoke a template), and then have a bot run through all of the older templates, replacing the image parameters that are inline, immediately once we put it live. My internet is barely working right now, so I am not able to test the coordinates thing without the site breaking, so I am going to take your word on it, as I want to test the image thing right now. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 20:57, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Ok, have you got an example for the command images issue? Gavbadger (talk) 21:02, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
See Loring Air Force Base, which is one of many like this. If we put the ACC image down the page, it will peev a lot of people. In unrelated news, I have updated the image thing so that we don't need to put in a size parameter. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 21:49, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Ok, do you want me to move it up or do it want to do it? That's great news, do you just put in [[File:FILENAME.jpg|250px]] and that's it? Gavbadger (talk) 21:56, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
I'll go ahead and do it. Actually, all you have to do is FILENAME.jpg and you are all set. This puts us more in line with other templates, but will require having a bot rapidly clean up after us. I am going to add a third image (turn number two into number three, and make a new one under number one) so that everything will work fine. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 22:03, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't think your edit works, if you change the file name format like you said it goes all over the place.Gavbadger (talk) 22:29, 28 January 2014 (UTC) Edited again Gavbadger (talk) 22:38, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Okay, so I'm assuming everything now works for you? Kevin Rutherford (talk) 23:38, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
No, look at the top three infoboxes on the testcases page. Gavbadger (talk) 23:52, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
I suspect that this page might be something to look at, so I am going to tinker around with it right now. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 00:56, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
I've changed image1 & image 3 down to 250px because 300px as a standard for all the different structures is just too big, I also have with a problem with the image sizes regarding Royal Air Force crests (there are 33 currently in use) 250px is too big, for them I want to create another image field for them at 150px since the U.S. airfields has their own parameter at 75px. Gavbadger (talk) 15:29, 29 January 2014 (UTC) Edited again Gavbadger (talk) 15:46, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Why do we need a separate field for "major command emblems for airfields" since it only suites American airports and nothing else, you have to remember that other installations such as castles, fortresses, radar stations, comm's centres & headquarters use this template, currently the "major command emblems for airfields" are placed under the infobox name within articles which personally I think looks better and this way all the different military airfields around the world can have their emblems in the same place, which introduces commonality. So why do we need a separate field for "major command emblems for airfields" ? Gavbadger (talk) 15:46, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
I was just messing around with it last night, and I was just thinking of a basic name to place in the article, but didn't think it would be an issue in the sandbox stage. I think having it reserved for a variety of purposes would be a good idea, especially since there are many articles that already have it. Also, thanks to this edit and the ones that you have done after, would you agree that we can slowly start the process of merging in everything? In terms of the image issue (where we drop parameters on tens of thousands of pages), I would be happy to use the old system in the meantime, and worry about it later (i.e. when we have a bot programmed to clean up), especially since we have a working example up and running. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 16:37, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
1) Ok, the edit you thanked me for wasn't me, it was someone else's, but thanks.
2) Merge away.

Infobox police station/headquarters?

I cannot find any infobox for police stations/headquarters such as these: Camp Crame and Camp Bagong Diwa. Is there an infobox for such places?–Sanglahi86 (talk) 09:47, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Native name language?

Could this template be made to support | native_name_lang = in the way that, say, {{Infobox museum}} does? I just manually added {{noitalic}} to Fort San Domingo and Hobe Fort, as Chinese should never be in italic (and MOS:BADITALICS agrees). I assume that specifying the native language not only gets the italics right, but also adds the right kind of markup for screenreaders etc. —Kusma (talk) 22:07, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
