What about death information?
Think someone could add fields for the date and place of death? — Dale Arnett (talk) 16:00, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

What is the point
What is the point of this template, what is it meant for? Is it meant for track and field, the only sport for which the word athlete is/should be used in Wikipedia? Don't think so: "turned pro"? "World Finals" What is this, exactly? Punkmorten (talk) 11:02, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Consistent with the usage elsewhere on Wikipedia, I'd suggest restricting this template to track and field athletes, and creating a new generic "sportsperson" infobox. Will work on this shortly. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 06:26, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I've created a new generic infobox called {{Infobox Sportsperson}} for use in biographical articles about sportsmen and sportswomen competing in sports that do not have a specialized biographical infobox. Comments on how the infobox may be improved are welcome at the template talk page. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 13:49, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Removal of coloured backgrounds of headings
Hi, Thumperward. Actually, I think the removal of the coloured backgrounds of headings makes the headings harder to pick out in the infobox. And the colour was not chosen randomly – I thought it approximated the colour of running tracks. :-) — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 08:26, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- It's still arbitrary, even if it isn't "random" as such. I don't believe that there's a significant loss of clarity, and I believe that the trend is away from adding coloured headers for this reason. Can you point to an article where you feel there's a significant loss of clarity introduced by this change? Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 08:32, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
I was looking at the sample infobox in the template documentation (also visible at "Oscar Pistorius"). It's my impression that once the infobox has been filled with information, the headings don't stand out as much as when they appear in the empty template on the template description page. Is there any relevant discussion on the trend against using coloured headers? — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 09:04, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Template talk:infobox is the best place, though there was discussion elsewhere (which I can no longer find) on the general issue of templates hard-coding colours without a clear and obvious colour key in the past. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 09:29, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Oh, right. Well, I have no strong feelings about this. I shall leave it to future editors to suggest if they would like to propose a colour key for the template. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 13:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
