Poor referencing practice
[edit]This template inserts references that are links to Wikipedia articles. Wikipedia is not its own reference. Shouldn't those links be fixed to be plain wikilinks, or be notes instead of references? Perhaps they should be removed altogether. -- Mikeblas (talk) 14:45, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Mikeblas: These are not so much references as notes; they simply list a compound in which Al has each of these rare oxidation states. I have replaced them with actual references describing each of these compounds. Double sharp (talk) 15:17, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
- I like that, I think it works much better. -- Mikeblas (talk) 19:59, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

In the "pronunciation" section, change the second pronunciation from
/əˈljuːmɪnəm/
To
/əˈluːmɪnəm/
There is no slide or approximant in this pronunciation. The pronunciation "ə-LEW-min-əm" is correct, but the current IPA would be better transcribed as "əl-YEW-min-əm", and if people do pronounce it this way, it's quite uncommon. Spitemaster (talk) 22:09, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- Here. I cannot judge. -DePiep (talk) 23:19, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- Odd, Spitemaster is correct. There is no /j/ in either the UK or US samples (and the UK one is clearly /ˌæləˈmɪnjəm/ and not /ˌæljʊˈmɪniəm/—though since it isn't RP I'm not sure it's the best option for representing this particular pronunciation). Merriam-Webster and Wiktionary don't give /j/ in "aluminum" either. I've changed the AmE, anyway. Done.
- Fwiw, though, "LEW" would be the correct transcription of the original IPA, because "Xew" is used specifically for /juː/ following a consonant X; see Help:Pronunciation respelling key note 3. —Nizolan (talk · c.) 10:20, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
