Discussion
[edit]- Thanks for removing the border, I overlooked that edit. I had the border live only due to editing practice ("sandboxing") and forgot to take it out.
- Also, I tried (not good enoug) to squeeze it narrower left to right, but it's better now. Most monitors will not fit it any wider than it currently is. Doctorindy (talk) 03:18, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Coyne/Wilson
[edit]Wilson ran with the #19 on the car at St Pete, but looks like he will probably run with #18 for the rest of the season. I've hence changed the car number next to him to 18/19, but please feel free to comment here if you think otherwise? Oli.meggitt (talk) 15:44, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- The template is supposed to represent the current driver/car lineup, meaning that only #18 should be shown. -Drdisque (talk) 17:34, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for clarifying, I will change it back Oli.meggitt (talk) 19:17, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Tracy at Foyt's team
[edit]Should Paul Tracy be added alongside the now injured Vitor Meira in the template? I almost added him, but what stopped me is that right now Tracy's deal with A. J. Foyt Enterprises is only for Milwaukee; Texas and the rest of the year are still TBD. Should he be added, or is it still too early?
Also should Will Power be added under Penske Racing?

- I'd add Tracy if he shows up in a second race, for now it might be best to put a little (INJ) next to Vitor to signify that he isn't currently driving the car. We don't have Power listed because the #12 isn't a full-time or nearly full-time car. If at some point it appears to be more or less a full-time car, then would be the time to add it. -Drdisque (talk) 02:13, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Changes, changes
[edit]Ryan Hunter-Reay is now in the #14 for the rest of the year. Someone has changed the Foyt lineup to reflect only the past two races (Tracy/Foyt IV, which doesn't make much sense to me); should it be shown as Meira (INJ)/Hunter-Reay? And then, should Hunter-Reay still be shown under Vision Racing? 97.125.92.220 (talk) 07:03, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
2010 template
[edit]When does everyone think a re-design of this template for the 2010 season should be put together?Manningmbd 13:08, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'm going to work on it after we see who shows up at the Barber test. Froo (talk) 16:09, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Make a template for each year
[edit]There should be one of these templates made for each year, e.g., Template:2012 IndyCar Series, so that you don't have the hard code of the template at the bottom of each article, like at the 2010 IndyCar Series season navbox. That way, you can add the template to each article and save a lot of kBs in the article too. --Funandtrvl (talk) 23:42, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Do we really want to add 20-odd templates to articles like Michael Andretti? Where is the benefit? --Falcadore (talk) 03:30, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
In looking at the Takuma Sato article, it has this template which is labeled the 2012 IndyCar Series. However, it shows 49 starts, which is incorrect if we are just looking at 2012 but correct over multiple years. Is the template being used incorrectly at that article or should the year be removed from this template? 72Dino (talk) 18:50, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
Potential Updates
[edit]I recently made some updates to the IndyCar Series teams template where I changed the appearance of the current teams section in the template. Now I feel as though that section in the teams template should replace the teams section in this template and revert the curent teams section in the IndyCar Series teams template to an hlist listclass. Having similar looking sections in two different templates seems somewhat redundant to me. Thoughts? SteeledDock541 (talk) 17:32, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- To me, I don't see a point to the teams template overall, it would be better as some sort of list. I don't see the value of having all the former teams linked with the active teams. This template currently serves a point for quick access to the current season, and that's where I see it's value. Esw01407 (talk) 23:43, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with you to an extent. I'm just asking if I should move the updates I did to the teams template to this main template to give it a visual update and make the current teams section in this template cleaner and more distinct. I would just revert the teams template to the way it was before if I were to do that. SteeledDock541 (talk) 03:49, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have multiple questions and concerns. What is the basis for the coloring choices of the teams? Many teams don't have standard coloring due to constant sponsor changes like Coyne, Rahal, or even Andretti. Listing all the drivers seems to make the template very crowded, while the current one is more organized and cleaner by also just using the last name. The upgrade feels like a run on sentence. I don't feel this format works for IndyCar, where I get it's formatting for Formula One, as the team colors and sponsors largely don't change. Esw01407 (talk) 01:38, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've undone the edits of adding the seasons, as they are unnecessary. Why are we trying to pile all this into one template? I'm having a lot trouble following the logic of these proposed changes. Esw01407 (talk) 13:38, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Actually the teams do have standard coloring because the color is based on the team's logo and branding, not their sponsorships. The coloring cannot be based on sponsors because of the fluctuating nature of sponsor rotations as you mentioned. Using last names seems more confusing to me than using both first and last names. If someone were to look at this template for the first time and not know who many of the drivers were, how would they know who Nolan Siegel or Kyle Larson are? Having the full name makes it less confusing and each driver more identifiable to a reader. I get your concern with it feeling like a run on sentence, however, with the new 3 cars per team restriction along with a max of 3 drivers per car for next season, this would be less of an issue. SteeledDock541 (talk) 16:56, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Now with the information about the the three driver limit, even with following the series I was not aware of, I can agree to the revised tables minus the colors. I'm having trouble with the clashing colors yet, the Red's and Juncos Green make the team titles poor to read. My other question would be why include the IndyCar series years when it's referenced on Template: IndyCar Series Seasons and Template: American Championship Car seasons? Esw01407 (talk) 03:51, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- On the colors, the colors are just copied from each of the individual team's templates such as Template:Chip Ganassi Racing and Template:Meyer Shank Racing. However, for this template they can be changed and adjusted to make the team names more legible. For example, for Juncos we could make the background black, the text white, and the border a faded green. For all of the reds that are bright such as Foyt and Ganassi, we can just change their contrast or make them more faded so that the text is more legible. The reason I think the colors would improve it is because each text box would be distinct. If each box had the same default colors, I feel as though the distinction would be lost.
- I actually didn't know that the Template:IndyCar Series Seasons or the Template:American Championship Car seasons existed. So I'm fine with not including the series years info on this template. SteeledDock541 (talk) 01:59, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
