Tag Over Test

Hi, I just live tested the tag over for covering multiple comments, and then reverted. It seemed to only centered on the first comment. It could be better for this application by possibly placing a transparent box over the range and centering the note. Still a great idea. Zulu Papa 5 ☆ (talk) 01:14, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I see it.[1] Didn't want completely cover up another person's comment, since the box is 10% transparent, I guess you could read under it. I also intended it to only tag or collapse one comment. It's why "Template:Inappropriate comment" is singular. The large empty colored space in the first example seems distracting, any ideas on how to style it better? you could try centering the message vertically, but that still might look a bit odd. any way you look at this you're going to end up with a large swatch of empty space on the page - that might draw more attention to the opaqued text rather than drawing attention away from it. if it were me, I'd use the two template top/bottom model and set up a div that collapses the text to a small (possibly expandable) floating box on the right of the page - takes up minimal space, doesn't interfere with page flow. might have the text expand into a popup div as well... --Ludwigs2 05:27, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Maybe if it is possible, make a "mouse over" that removes the tag or the collapsible idea might be worth a try. If going to stay with single comment uses, then maybe an instruction note to clarify would be good. Although in my experience things can get out of hand in groups. I can do mouse over, although I need to make a proposal to WP:VPT in order to add

to MediaWiki:Common.css. What'll happen is as your mouse hovers over the text, the opacity will change from 90% to 10%. Clarified the documentation about use for single/multiple comments. Collapsible? I really don't know. If you believe it'll work, develop the idea, I'll be interested. 2/0 mentioned accessibility. To my knowledge it'll do fine, should degrade gracefully. Having actually looked at the documentation now, it throws no red flags for me, but WP:ACCESSIBILITY largely lies in that unfortunate realm of things in which 2/0 is interested but not competent. I have to say, every time I come to this page the tag-over thing strikes me as overkill. it really stands out, and not necessarily in a good way. it might be better if you changed the color to something closer to page background colors so it looks more ghosted than blanked.

I can see that. I think we can leave the white space alone. Change the color? Unless you want to suggest a few, I don't know. The background color is the same as talk page templates, sort of tradition I think. ChyranandChloe (talk) 17:12, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Since these examples also are a lot like some of the Soapbox that one hears that goes off on various off-topic tangents, and may or may not come back to actual editing issues, it would be nice to know if this can be used there also. Difference between this and {{Redacted}}

Might not belong here but when should I use which template? It seems like {{Inappropriate comment}} and {{Redacted}} are used for basically the same purpose.
