Notes
[edit]Not sure why 'Glasgow Ice Cream Wars' is included when it is clearly not ice cream related. It's an article about drug and gang violence and I don't think those are values that children who come to read about ice cream on WIkipedia should be instilled with. I don't think Glasgow ICe Cream Wars should be on this sight because it's not appropriate for children. A moderator should remove it. Gag and “shock” flavors
[edit]Currently this list includes 31 items. Among them are:
- bacon
- beer
- crab
- garlic
- oyster
Sure, people have made such things. Some of them, like bacon, have interesting histories and don’t necessarily have to be shock/novelty flavors. But garlic and oyster ice creams are gags for food festivals. The very reason they are interesting and funny at these events is that they are not “ice cream flavors.”
There are thousands of ice cream flavors. I wouldn’t expect this list to include all of them; it has to be selective for practicality’s sake, right? But I would suggest that there could be better criteria for inclusion. Intuitively at least, I would expect flavors included in this list to be...
- commonly known (e.g. vanilla), at least somewhere (e.g. tutti frutti)
- or specifically an “ice cream flavor” (e.g. tiger tail or rocky road; that is, flavors whose names refer to ice cream varieties even without qualification)
- or historically notable (e.g. biscuit tortoni)
I agree that quirky flavors are interesting, but they make up a disproportionate amount of the list, painting a misleading picture of the subject.
