Confused
[edit]Are you suggesting that we add these to the template? Longstanding practice is that only municipalities and unincorporated communities get added to these templates, so it wouldn't be the best idea to add these in. Nyttend (talk) 04:58, 23 June 2009 (UTC) The nature of of Hudson County is such that it is a collection of municpalities, but also urban conglomeration that functions as a city. Fragmenting the geographical locations in the article skews that fact. An attempt to make the template more inclusive is one way to speak to that that issue. There are other templates which include other info, such as CDPs Berkshire County, Massachusetts or community boards New York County, New York. These are, of course, "official". Whether to include geographihc locations is debatable, but then again is the function of the template. Is it meant to give readers easy (one click) access about a place?Thoughts?Djflem (talk) 12:52, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- No, this is "municipalities and communities". No county template nationwide does otherwise than municipalities and communities. If you want to have a template with other bits, you could always make a different template. See {{Dakota County, Minnesota topics}} and {{Gibson County, Indiana topics}} for two examples. Distorted presentation by relying on GNIS in template
[edit]By including/describing other unincorporated communities (other? relative to what?) the template creates a distorted and non-neutral POV. While cherry-picking and choosing clearly defined neighborhoods based on Geographic Names Information System it ignores others, and in doing so It does disservice to Wikipedia as a reliable source of information. In Hudson County, there are certain distinct geographical places that have defined areas and recognizable/commonly used names such as South Kearny, Harmon Cove, Constable Hook, Ellis Island, Arlington, MOTBY, Port Jersey. These place names, some of which are residential communities, are often used in local parlance and in some postal addressing, but are not included in the selection. if one looks at Template:Jersey City Neighborhoods or Category:Neighborhoods in Hudson County, New Jersey one sees close to 75 neighborhoods mentioned. To pick a dozen and add them to the template based on a notably unreliable gazeteer that is based on geographic names and ignoring the rest is not useful and completely misleading. - Had to start somewhere. You could either add value by making the list more complete, or, as you have apparently chosen to do, just remove everything. Your choice. Famartin (talk) 15:13, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Template:Camden County, New Jersey does not include neighbourhoods included in Template:Camden, New Jersey, and IMO shouldn't. Why would the Hudson County template include some neighborhoods in Jersey City and not others? They shouldn't be there at all. It's very inconsistent, repetitive, and confusing.Djflem (talk) 17:37, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- You could add them all if you wanted consistency. Its not fair that some locations have no place in any template. Famartin (talk) 18:06, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
