Middag
[edit]I propose to remove Kingdom of Middag from the list of historical periods because:
- the date of 1540 is unfounded; nothing is known of Middag before the Dutch arrived.
- there is no reason to single them out from among the 11 "shires or provinces" in David Wright's account from the 1640s.
- histories of Taiwan do not give them this treatment. Kanguole 14:46, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
The end date of 1732 apparently has no basis either; it is just the date the Qing suppressed a rebellion in the area. Kanguole 09:29, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Remove Republic of Formosa
[edit]I propose removing Republic of Formosa from the chronology.
The Republic of Formosa was a short-lived regime, not a historical period. In Taiwan's history textbooks, it is included in the Japanese rule period as just one of the anti-Japan events.
The regime had never ruled Taiwan for one single day. Placing it in the chronology can mislead readers into believing that it ruled Taiwan. --Matt Smith (talk) 08:42, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- I agree. Histories of Taiwan do not treat this as a period, and the largely notional "republic" lasted only 12 days, though resistance to the Japanese takeover lasted several months. Kanguole 16:01, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
