To vs. through
[edit]This navbox has a division named "to 1899", which, by itself, could mean either through the year 1899 or 1898. Because the next division is "since 1900", it apparently is meant to be the former. Why not use the phrase "through 1899" instead to eliminate the ambiguity?
The same applies to related articles, like History of California to 1899, the hatnote for which is even arguably self-inconsistent, stating:
- This article covers in brief the history of California until the year 1899; for later events, see History of California 1900 to present.
In most situations, without the second phrase, until the year 1899 means "through 1898", instead of the intended meaning, which is "through 1899". I propose moving the article History of California to 1899 to History of California through 1899 and until the year in its hatnote to through ("the year" is generally not to be used per WP:YEAR). —[AlanM1(talk)]— 06:04, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
