Possible restructuring?
[edit]Quick note: if the two sections currently in this navbox grow unmanageable, we can move to a one-year-per-section system like this:

What are the limitations on this list?
[edit]Exactly how many of his films are we alloud to list here. I understand the obvious factors, those being that the films should preferably not be lost and should have pages, but givin the vast number of films this guy made, can we really put in all of them. Does the film need to be notable to be included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamnickgeo (talk • contribs) 21:03, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
- Your hunch is correct—this navbox is for all the Méliès films that already have their own articles. When new articles are created, they can be added in the appropriate place chronologically.
- I wouldn't be too worried about the navbox getting too big; navboxes on Wikipedia often handle huge lists of works (for example, Template:Agatha Christie or Template:H. G. Wells). If at some point the navbox just looks too big, we can change to a one-year-per-section system, as modeled above.--Lemuellio (talk) 20:07, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Time to omit the years?
[edit]Any thoughts about how useful the parenthetical years, e.g. (1897), are in this navbox? Per WP:NAV-WITHIN and WP:EXISTING, the ideal is to keep navboxes reasonably sized, with as little unlinked text as possible. The sheer quantity of Méliès's work inevitably makes that first criterion difficult, but removing the dates seems to be supported by both criteria. I can't seem to find such dates on any other navboxes.
If there's significant reason to keep them, though, please do give a shout!--Lemuellio (talk) 14:29, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- The present chronological distribution, with the years, serves to orientate the map and arcs of Méliès's output. Without the years it becomes an almost non-understandable list of names. The years create a flow, similar to visual art templates such as {{Pablo Picasso}} and many others. And will take this chance to thank and congratulate Lemuellio and their tremendous work on Wikipedia's Méliès's collection! Randy Kryn (talk) 14:49, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- Or the option used by the {{Vincent van Gogh}} template, with listings by years (although in this case it would probably be better to keep the years flush-left, maybe with the first section at the top making the topic 'Films' clear (first line 'Films:' then start with 1896). - Either option works fine by me. Thanks for your input, and for the kind words! Lemuellio (talk) 20:56, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
