adj=on

[edit]

Please support an adj=on as for Template:Convert, so that it is possible to write eg. "The QM2 is a 150,000-GT ocean liner" in a WP:MOSNUM-compliant manner. —Sladen (talk) 19:01, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Gross ton"

[edit]

Gross tonnage is an unitless index, so there is no such thing as "gross ton". Thus it should not be allowed to be used in this template. Tupsumato (talk) 15:33, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added some strikethroughs to stop people from using the incorrect notation. Tupsumato (talk) 21:43, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New parameters

[edit]

Possible new parameters for this template are being discussed at WT:SHIPS §GT, GRT, NetT, NRT templates.

Adj=on not working

[edit]

@Trappist the monk: So this line |adj=-{{#ifeq:{{{link|}}}|off|gross tonnage (GT)|[[Gross tonnage{{!}}gross tonnage (GT)]]}} gives the same result whether adj=on or not. If it's on it should say gross tons, not gross tonnage. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:40, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is no such thing as "gross ton". That's why it does not say anything. Tupsumato (talk) 16:42, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So then we should remove the adjectival form from the docs? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:47, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No. The difference between |disp=long and |disp=adj is the hyphenated rendering:
{{GT|36000|disp=long}} → 36,000 gross tonnage (GT)
{{GT|36000|disp=adj}} → 36,000-gross tonnage (GT)

OK. I don't get it but I'll take your word for it. Maybe someone in the article gross tonnage should illuminate how these conventions work for those of us slow to grasp it. Thanks for pointing that out for me. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 18:52, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
