Please note: the criteria for including a person in the list of "Notable examples" of sex symbols or mentioning them in the article is that they must be described in a reliable source explicitly by the words "sex symbol" (or a close variation like "sex-symbol, or the exact translation of "sex symbol" in another language). Do not remove a person just because you do not personally find them sexy, or include someone solely because you personally find them sexy. Any edit that mentions a particular person without a proper reference will be subject to deletion. Any edit that removes a properly-sourced mention of a person without sufficient explanation will be subject to having your edit reverted. Please propose your edit on the talk page for this article if you are unsure whether it meets the criteria for inclusion.
I think an editnotice like this is needed because users keep making edits to the article, particularly to the list of "Notable examples", that include or remove someone without explanation. I think it needs to be made clearer what the criteria for inclusion are (which has been agreed upon by consensus several times on the talk page). Change it and/or let me know if you think the notice could be made more concise or worded differently. I will make a section on the Talk:Sex symbol called "Edit Notice Proposal" in case anyone has any input or whoever reads this wants to make any comments/suggestions/changes/etc. Thanks! I think the notice is a bit too verbose. I'd suggest:
Please note: To include a person in this article they must be explicitly described in a reliable source as a "sex symbol" using those exact words, a close variation, or the exact translation of "sex symbol" in another language. Your personal opinions about who is or is not sexy is not the criteria here, so please do not remove or add people based on your own feelings. Any unsourced addition is subject to deletion, and any deletion of a sourced person without sufficient explanation is subject to being reverted. If you are unsure about someone you wish to add, please propose your edit on the article talk page.
Not done: Perhaps this should be discussed a bit further to nail down the wording. In my personal opinion, this version has too much bolded-italics and the second sentence could use work. Anomie⚔15:18, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I replied to Beyond My Ken's post about this on Talk:Sex symbol under the section Edit Notice Proposal. Hopefully we can perfect it and then re-request it here. It does seem like it might still need a bit stronger wording, as some users are still making poorly-sourced edits. Any input from anyone else is welcomed. -MsBatfish (talk) 08:02, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
