Editprotected

[edit]

(Editprotected for the doc page - having a protected doc page defeats the purpose of doc pages. Any chance it can be unprotected...?) Please update the "hiding" information to use the new "skin.css" shortcut:

To hide the message, add

:<tt><nowiki>#file-namespace-editnotice { display: none !important; } </nowiki></tt>

into [[Special:Mypage/skin.css]], which redirects to your current skin's CSS file (open in new tab/window to see).

This, that, and the other (talk) 06:22, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done - but the doc page isn't protected. Use the edit link at the top right of the documentation section. Rd232 talk 09:05, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Please replace Wikipedia:Image copyright tags with Wikipedia:File copyright tags in the editnotice, as that is what it currently redirects to, and the file namespace applies to more than just images. Thanks!

Account creators no longer have the tboverride right (instead they now have tboverride-account) per this discussion. As a result, they no longer have the ability to change edit notices and should be removed from the usage section in the documentation. In addition, template editors aren't mentioned there.  Not done This page is for requesting changes to the edit notice, Template:Editnotices/Namespace/File. I suggest you post at Wikipedia:Files for upload. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:29, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove .. [[Wikipedia:New contributors' help page]], since the page is a redirect to Wikipedia:Questions, which already has a link. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 05:35, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Sheriffs Are Coming Picture with all agents.png – This is an updated picture of latest series. Duncanholt (talk) 14:29, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: seems to be a mistaken edit request - this is for an editnotice about an entire namespace, not for a change to a particular file. Elli (talk | contribs) 00:20, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Duncanholt: first of all, this does not seem to be the correct talk page for suggesting the use of a file image. Secondly, there is already an image just like the one you uploaded at File:Sheriffs Are Coming.png, and that image is being used in the The Sheriffs Are Coming article. Change | class = file-namespace-editnotice to | class = file-namespace-editnotice nopopupnotice
This will stop Wikipedia:EditNoticesOnMobile (and potentially the apps in the future) from actively popping this up on every single file page. The notice will still be available with a button. Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 06:27, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

On hold @Alexis Jazz Hmm, wasn't the point of ENOM that we want these editors to see these notices, the same notices that all other editors on all other platforms get? — xaosflux Talk 14:26, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Xaosflux, it is, but we should also recognize that edit notices are used in different ways sometimes. Notices about specific warnings should pop up. A notice that is used as a navbox (like {{Editnotices/Group/Wikipedia:Files for discussion}}) shouldn't be shown on platforms that popup notices at all, that notice was designed for the 2010 wikitext editor. The group notices for File: and Category: aren't really warnings. They are informative, but they popup for every single page you edit in that namespace which can get old fast.
As an alternative, wrap the whole notice in a div with class="nonextendedconfirmed-show". (see {{If extended confirmed}}) It's only a CSS trick, but ENOM should respect that as it checks the innerText. Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 16:28, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That later would be a bad idea, I think we want this to display to every editor on every edit. The exempting from ENOM with nopopupnotice is better I think. I dropped a note at Wikipedia_talk:EditNoticesOnMobile#Skip_popups_of_certain_edit_notices? - let's see if there is any objections. — xaosflux Talk 16:37, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Xaosflux, thank you. Technically I could make ENOM detect namespace-wide notices by looking for the mw-editnotice-namespace class and considering all cached notices (instead of just the current page) when deciding if the notice should popup. But I'm not so sure that would be a good idea either because for low traffic namespaces you probably wouldn't want that. Both here and at Template talk:Editnotices/Namespace/Category there are explicit instructions at the top with a link to WP:CSSHIDE which uses #category-namespace-editnotice for its example. Even the template itself contains a link "Hide this message". Those instructions actually should work with ENOM as well, but it's not really user friendly. Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 18:41, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm inclined to do this (esp before the next ENOM wave) just want to give a chance for other feedback. — xaosflux Talk 18:44, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
