BN(O)
[edit]One editor has deleted the reference to British passport. However, I do NOT think it is appropriate to do so. In fact, 3.44 million of people hold BN(O) passport and ~200,000 hold BC passports (British Nationality Selection Scheme) British passport holders is a significant group of people in Hong Kong (even most of them also hold PRC nationality). I think that it is NOT appropriate for us to include Australian passport, US passport in the template but BN(O) is a special case. The UK also ruled HK for 150 yrs and it has a significant impact on Hong Kong and China.
- The link goes to British passport, and not an article on BN(O) passport. I'm almost certain there are many more HK permanent residents with Canadian passports and Australian passports. So I think a link to the article on British passport is irrelevant. BN(O) passports don't really even give anything useful outside of visa rights - you don't even have residency rights in the UK with those passports. It was basically just another way for the UK government to make itself look good while in reality still screwing over HK and its people. Actually, in fact, I'm not even certain why travel documents and the HK ID card should be linked on this template. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 06:13, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- The article British passport does contain information about all British passports, including BN(O) and BC. Please read the article carefully first. Read also British nationality law and Hong Kong. It is interesting to note that even BN(O)s do not automatically hold the ROA in the UK, BN(O)s are Commonwealth citizens. Once they are settled in the UK, BN(O)s enjoy most civic rights (e.g. UK Government posts, FULL voting rights) in the UK. This is not applicable to a HKSAR passport holder. I also encourage you to read articles on the following links [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. I think BN(O) is an important travel document used in Hong Kong (it is a passport that was obtainable in Hong Kong, but not the Canadian and Aussie ones) and its significace cannot be ignore when we discuss the history of HK. Travel documents
[edit]I'm not sure why articles to passports and the Home Return Permit are linked from this template, but I want to suggest removing them but keeping the HK ID article linked, plus adding Right of abode issue, Hong Kong. What does everybody think? Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 14:53, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with you. Go ahead. BN(O) 00:31, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Done. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 01:09, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Political / Legal subcategories
[edit]Not sure if the following 3 links should be on this template since they are more political / legal categories, rather than demographic characteristics of HK people:
I would suggest removing these, possibly moving them to the Politics / Govt template instead. I also think there's room to expand this pane a lot more with some more categories, perhaps using hidden lists like the Politics/Govt pane does. For example: Indigenous inhabitants, Women, Youth, etc. What does everybody else think? Kdm852 (talk) 06:59, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
