Purpose?
[edit]I fail to see the point of this template. An image description page provides the exact same information? -- Longhair\talk 04:37, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Fairly obviously, the difference is where the attribution takes place: hidden behind a mouse click, or actually visible in some meaningful form. We're long overdue for a proper discussion about how to comply with "attribution" requirements of free images. Stevage 13:55, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. I've never really understood Wikipedia's seeming non-fulfilment of the "attribution" license - credit should be given where credit is due, and in a straightforward way to boot. I only wish there was a way of inserting the credit into a corner of the photo when it is generated (by php) - this would be the most non-pollutive method, and wouldn't interfere with the photo's caption - but short of that, I do think this template could and should be put to wide use.
