Template talk:Men's college basketball award navbox

Propose to collapse this navbox

This navigation box started out as much smaller and less comprehensive than it is today. It wasn't a burden to place it on an article even though it's automatically expanded because it didn't take up a ton of room. However, as (many) more awards have been added to this navbox, the need, I believe, has arisen to make this collapsed. I propose that a reformatting occur to make this template look more like Template:College Football Awards. The Cfb template looks great, is comprehensive and doesn't take up an exorbitant amount of space on articles because it closes when other navboxes are present. Before anyone (myself included) goes to make any dramatic change on this template, I wanted to get feedback from other WikiProject College basketball members (and even non-committed editors). Additionally, the need for separate men and women college basketball divisions is starting to arise now that the women's game is getting more attention. I'll get the consensus building started:

• Are the Lute Olson and Ben Jobe Awards really major awards? These are part of a suite of awards introduced by collegeinsider.com this year that also include the Lefty Driesell award (best Defensive Player), the Lou Henson award (mid-major POY), Hugh Durham award (best mid-major coach), etc. I guess I'm just not sure where you draw the line - do you start lisiting the ESPN.com POY and the Rivals.com awards? For the most part the NCAA recognizes in their record book those awards that have been on the season pages the last few years, with the exception of the Senior CLASS award (which gets a lot of media coverage), the Haggerty and Geasey (which each have 50+ years of history).   • My opinion is: I don't know. I can see why the Lute Olson and Ben Jobe awards might be disputed for this template, but if they stay I'm not going to complain either. • • I thought this over too. My initial reaction was: who is collegeinsider.com and why are they making up awards? But then I saw the list of people on their panel that is picking the winners and figured it was more than just some random website. Look at the bottom of the page for the Olson and Driesell awards, they have NBA players, college coaches, guys from Nike, ESPN/Fox, and conference officials picking the awards. Probably worth mentioning since a panel like that separates them from say ESPN.com awards chosen by one blogger. Ryan2845 (talk) 13:34, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

CollegeInsider.com navbox

In response to Rikster's legitimate concern about these new CollegeInsider awards as not being "major" (they're not....yet), I've made this template:

The 2010–11 NCAA Men's Basketball Media Guide officially lists the CollegeInsider.com awards, so I have {{userreq}}'d the above template and merged all of those articles onto this primary one. Hence the redlink. Jrcla2 (talk) 16:43, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
