Template needs update

[edit]

{{editprotected}} This template places pages in Category:Cleanup, which has been redirected to Category:All pages needing cleanup. Please update the category link accordingly. (Note that if the {{{date}}} parameter is used, the category link should still read [[:Category:Cleanup from {{{date}}}]]; the link should be changed only for the default case where {{{date}}} is missing.) --Russ (talk) 15:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Feel free to update the documentation, which is contained in a transcluded template. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:16, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal

[edit]

I propose to change

Please help to clean it up to meet Wikipedia's quality standards.

to

Please help to make it to meet Wikipedia's quality standards.

with "make it" acting as the "edit this page" button as it does currently.Bernolákovčina (talk) 22:01, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think "clean it up" is better wording and I don't see why "make it" would suit the template better.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:47, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
To me, I think "make it" is better than "edit it", but "clean it up" does not convey the semantic as closely as "make it" does, as "clean" has a different connotation than edit.Bernolákovčina (talk) 04:45, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I oppose the proposed change, and also think that "clean up" is better wording. I would consider removing the word "to", that is "Please help clean it up", but that is no big deal. Debresser (talk)
Can you explain why "clean up" is better wording? What does it convey that is more useful in this case?Bernolákovčina (talk) 23:21, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Clean-up sounds better and it is a term used an various Wikipedia templates along with the "iconic broom". Clean-up, especially in Wiki-language, implies that there are issues with the article that need to be addressed and fixed or "made right". Overall, I think don't see a compelling reason to change it.--NortyNort (Holla) 02:55, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How about

Please help improve it to meet Wikipedia's quality standards.

Rich Farmbrough, 11:34, 2 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

The template is called "Cleanup-list", not "Improve-list". So why not have the word "clean-up" in the text of the template? Debresser (talk) 12:01, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Making a note here (since this is a highly used template) that the related templates {{inclusion}}, {{famous}} and {{famous players}} have been nominated for deletion. Someone not using his real name (talk) 15:21, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest changing the link under "embedded lists" in the template from Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lists to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Embedded lists. Someone not using his real name (talk) 15:28, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clone and create Template:Cleanup table?

[edit]

I found an article with a broken table (see Talk:List_of_airline_codes#Broken_table_of_codes) and went to find a cleanup template to add to the article accordingly, couldn't find one, and found this one that seems closest, but not quite right to indicate the problem on the article.

Before cloning this template and creating Template:Cleanup table (e.g. by changing "list" to "table" in the template visible text and linking to Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Tables), I figured I would ask here for other editors's opinions (having never created a Wikipedia template before).

Thoughts?

Tantek (talk) 15:01, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Tantek: Use the optional unnamed parameter of {{cleanup}}, as in {{cleanup|table|reason=Table is broken|date=February 2018}}. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:53, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
