Citing an episode within a serial
Can this template be expanded to cite individual episodes of a serial? I wanted to cite The Tenth Planet episode 4 specifically at First Doctor#Personality, and neither {{cite episode}} or {{cite serial}} quite fits. It seems to me that it wouldn't be too difficult to add an optional field so that the citation could read like this:
- The Tenth Planet, "Episode 4". Writer Gerry Davis, Director Derek Martinus, Producer Innes Lloyd. Doctor Who. BBC. BBC1, London. October 29, 1966.
Unfortunately, I don't understand template syntax well enough to add the field myself. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 02:05, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'll give it a shot - I copied this template from Cite episode, but I think in examining it I'm beginning to grasp the fundamentals of the syntax. I had been treating those cases as if the full name was "The Tenth Planet, Episode 4", but your way is better. I'll work on it tonight or tomorrow. --Brian Olsen 00:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- Done! Once I'm presented with a problem like this, I just can't rest until it's solved. I've added an "episode" parameter. It should work, let me know. I'll change the WHO citations page to mention the addition when I get a chance. I've noticed that the "url" parameter doesn't seem to work, but I don't think it works on {{cite episode}} either. I'll check that out when I can - it doesn't seem to be used much, so I don't think there's a rush. --Brian Olsen 01:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- Lovely! Thanks for taking care of this! —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 05:15, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
episodelink to seriallink
I've changed the parameter "episodelink" to "seriallink". It didn't seem important before, but now that there's an "episode" parameter, it seemed necessary to make it clear that "seriallink" links the "serial" parameter, not the "episode" parameter. --Brian Olsen 03:17, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Parameter Language
How about this parameter? It will be useful because serials unfortunately not always in english. --85.140.38.72 (talk) 14:13, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- I don't fully understand when and how this parameter would be used. I see that this has also been proposed at Cite episode; if it's implemented there I'll see how to work it in here. --Brian Olsen (talk) 02:46, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
MOS Date changes
I've updated the template to reflect changes to the Manual of Style regarding dates. I think it's working all right, and I've updated the documentation to explain. Please feel free to contact me if I've broken a reference somewhere. --Brian Olsen (talk) 02:45, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Update to citation/core
Update to use {{citation/core}} is now in sandbox. This makes the template compliant with Citation Style 1 and adds all supported features. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 14:44, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
