Template talk:Cite QSA Agency
Change of Archive preferred citations and URL
[edit]Prior to June 2020, the Queensland State Archives preferred citation was (by example):
- Queensland State Archives, Agency ID8518
and the corresponding URL was:
In about June 2020, the Queensland State Archives changed their preferred citation structure to be:
- Queensland State Archives, Agency ID A8518 (introduction of a space and the leading A)
and the corresponding URL to be:
At this time, the use of other of these URLs (that is, with or without the leading "A") appear to be redirected correctly to their new URL
- http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/AgencyDetails.aspx?AgencyId=8518
- http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/AgencyDetails.aspx?AgencyId=A8518
This means that the existing citations in Wikipedia which use this template still work in terms to taking the reader to the correct webpage and existing uses of this template without the leading "A" will work as will any new ones with the leading "A". All of which is good. The template is not "broken". However, it is unclear whether these redirects are a temporary or permanent arrangement and whether the old or new URL is regarded by QSA as their persistent URL. I will contact the archives to try to better understand the situation with the URL before modifying this template in relation to the URLs generated. I have already added the extra space into the citation (which is purely cosemetic). Kerry (talk) 21:36, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
