[edit]Q: What is a reference for? A: To give you enough information to find the cited publication in your library/library system.
It follows from this that you would want to have the bibliographic information that your library holds for the publication, both the British Library and Library of Congress have the publisher as The Clarendon Press. Is there a library that catalogues this publication under Oxford University Press? Skullcinema (talk) 11:14, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- Looking at the spine of my OED2 (and yes, I do realise that it is later that the OED1) it has the OUP logo and "Oxford". OUP books in the past have carried "printed at the Clarendon Press" or "Oxford at the Clarendon Press". If you've double checked that it uses Clarendon as the publisher and not the printer, then go ahead and make the change, but before you do please take a quick look at [1] where the BL logs it as "Oxford : Clarendon Press, 1933, 1972.", Martin of Sheffield (talk) 12:59, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- My comments are specifically for the 1933 re-issue, I make no claims over any other OED publication. The BL page you link to appears to be to the fist volume of the later Supplements (4 vols published 1972-1986 (see table at Oxford_English_Dictionary#History)), the BL catalogue entry for the 1933 re-issue of the 1st edition is here [2]. The text "Oxford : Clarendon Press" denotes Oxford as the place of publication and Clarendon Press as the publisher as per ISBD standards. Skullcinema (talk) 10:44, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I've checked the MARC data and you are correct. It's a good way to confuse people though: "Oxford : Clarendon Press" vs "Oxford at the Clarendon Press"! Martin of Sheffield (talk) 11:17, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

More generally is there any other material from the full citation that you think should appear in the Template citation? Personally I think the editor names and resource identifiers are overkill for the template but would lean toward including The Philological Society given their overarching input to the project. - I'll look at this later, I've got to shoot off for a hospital appointment. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 11:17, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
