Template population

[edit]

Currently there are 623 unique mainspace articles linking to http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ and/or http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap (wikisearch links). I've transcluded {{Cite APOD}} ~206x, and {{APOD}} ~215x to all the simplest cases. Cases excluded include:

  1. where any complicated extraneous text exists after the link that can't be put into |quote=
    1. i.e. solar eclipse articles like Solar eclipse of April 29, 2014, Solar eclipse of August 11, 1999, etc.
  2. citations using {{SfnRef}} & {{Harvid}} were left alone since I didn't test whether/how they'd work with a pass-through citation template
  3. citations with |archive-date=, |archive-url=, or DASHbot, since I haven't decided (nor bothered getting any input on) how to handle these cases (whether or not to keep the info, though I'm leaning keep)

Removing {{Underused external link template}} as a result.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  14:52, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Use on Astronomy Picture of the Day page

[edit]

Can this template be modified so that its use on the Astronomy Picture of the Day page itself does not result in "Astronomy Picture of the Day" being bolded in the list of references? Tewapack (talk) 22:32, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

last-author-amp deprecated

[edit]

The cite templates are throwing errors related to last-author-amp which is now deprecated in favour of name-list-style. This template always includes this field, with no value unless the caller includes it with a value, which causes the hidden error "Cite has empty unknown parameter: |last-author-amp=" and populates the hidden category Category:CS1 errors: empty unknown parameters. I suspect very few callers of the template use this field. Lithopsian (talk) 20:10, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
