Chinese Civil War Template
[edit]It seems unbalanced that the historically more significant Civil War has no template while the less significant Warlords era has a gigantic and very well made template. In fact most characters of the Civil War are included under the warlords template. See Template:Warlord era Contributors intrested in this topic should create a Civil war template.--Gary123 Apply now, exciting opportunities available at Continental Op Detective Agency! 06:02, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- This is a terrible template. False, redudant, oversized and etc. I agree that the Warlord Era template is too big, and should be splitted. But by creating a redudant template is not the solution. I will recreate a template specifically for Chinese Civil War when I have time. AQu01rius (User • Talk) 07:49, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
The Chinese Civil War template is by no means redundant. Take a look at it almost all the people and events are only in this template but not in the warlords. Its true very few of the events and characters do overlap but thats simply historical, but take a look at it its almost completely new events and people. Your welcome to make changes. I don;t know what the heck you mean by "false". The only thing that I agree with you on is yes it is oversized someone should fix it. --Gary123 Apply now, exciting opportunities available at Continental Op Detective Agency! 17:28, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Template readjustment
[edit]Please be aware that the literary usage of Chinese Civil War refers only to Nationalist-Communist struggle (1927-1949, post 1949 conflicts are generally considered as part of the global Cold War).
Main events -> All redudant except Xinhai Revolution and Chinese Soviet Republic.
Battles -> Redudant with the Chinese Civil War campaignbox except for the encirclement campaigns, which I will start writing the missing parts when I have time.
Social -> Some wrong link, many content is unnecessary as it's repeated through in most articles.
Kuomintang figures -> Redudant; most of them is already mentioned in the Warlord era template (some are not listed under "Kuomintang").
Communist figures -> This part is ok in concept, but most of them is already listed out under People section in the Chinese Civil War article.
Other figures -> Almost all redudant except a few.
I will readjust the template. AQu01rius (User • Talk) 18:05, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
With all due respect the new template isn't exactly an improvement. It leaves out all the eladers battles and most of the events of the Civil War. I know the old template included some overlap witht he warlords template but thats not my fault many of the articles included in the warlords template have more to do with the Civil War than with the warlords. This is far more "false" than it was before. Its a good building block but as it stands now its in worse shap than where I had it. Now I apoligize if this is just your starting point and you have plans to expand it. --Gary123 Apply now, exciting opportunities available at Continental Op Detective Agency! 03:08, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Are you aware of that we have a campaignbox for battles in Chinese Civil War? Battles goes there. Also, read the discussions in Template talk:Cold War, as it's the precedent of this kind of template. There's consensus on the unnecessity to include biographies in templates like this.
- Comment on what you think should be included, and we can talk about it. AQu01rius (User • Talk) 03:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I feel that this should be done on the same scale as the warlords template. Basically this should mirror what is in the warlors template except relate to the events of the Chinese Civil War. In addition I think perhaps this template should replace the battle box. After all the battle box only covers post1945 battles while this template starts in 1927. The Cold War is much more vast than either the warlords period or the civil war since it covers the entire world from 1945-1991 while the civil war template only covers 1927-1949 in a single nation thus it doesnt have to be as narrow. Again I think the warlords template should be used as the model. --Gary123 Apply now, exciting opportunities available at Continental Op Detective Agency! 18:13, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- The warlord template is oversized, and will be trimmed down very soon. I don't think you have read the discussions in Cold War template yet, and also, there's already people having problem with the size of the Warlord Era template.
And, you are wrong, the campaignbox now covers battles between 1930 - 1935 (Every encirclement campaigns). Have you checked it before you posted this? ;) AQu01rius (User • Talk) 02:02, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Long March dates
[edit]The template sets the dates of the Long March from 1934-1935, but this only refers to the Communist First Red Army (admittedly the most well-known, since it was led by Mao Zedong). In a broader view, the Long March included two other forces retreating under pressure from the Kuomintang: the Second Red Army and the Fourth Red Army. The retreat of all the Red Armies was not complete until October 22, 1936, when the three forces linked up in Shaanxi. So I propose changing the dates to 1934-1936. formatting
[edit]Is there a way to center the header text "Nationalist-Communist Relations in China"? It overlaps right now with the "view/edit/discuss" links, and it's ugly. I don't know enough wiki-code to do it myself (I've tried to mess with another template with similar formatting issues and ended up reverting myself). Wl219 17:02, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
