Vague Purpose

[edit]

This is a poorly defined campaign box. 1. Battles are not campaigns, though a campaign may be comprised of one battle; many of the "campaigns" listed here are in reality singular battles within larger military campaigns or geo-political efforts. Those should probably not be listed as individual campaigns. For example, Angola (1622) and Angola (1623), which are both listed under the "First Kongo-Portuguese war". Shouldn't "First Kongo-Portuguese War" be the listing, then? 2. Modern countries. Personally am always an advocate for removing anachronism when possible. I get that this simplifies things, though. 3. Vague definitions of "colonial". Not every overseas campaign executed by Portugal was a colonial venture. Should things like the Portuguese intervention in the Ethio-Adal war be considered as such? This was an instance of a political ally intervening to the benefit of another ally, who had called for help. HiddenHistoryPedia (talk) 14:03, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I understand where you're getting at, but I think it'll have to do for now, because if we try to be too strict with definitions on this case we'll just end up excluding a good part of the articles as there isn't anything to replace them with yet. There isn't any "First Kongo-Portuguese War" article. "Colonial" is usually equated with "overseas" but if "Portuguese Overseas Campaigns" is seen as a less ambiguous name than "Portuguese Colonial Campaigns" I don't think that's problematic.
