Color of this template & inclusion of link
There's been a few recent edits here that have changed the color in regards to its former non AAA compliance. The main problem I have now is that the color is hardly distinguishable from the standard gray cells. This almost defeats the purpose of having it colored at all. Also, I'd like to point out that the only reason that it's not compliant is because of the use of the link. If the link were not there, we would have no problem. This brings me to a proposition: remove the link.
- The color problem is an issue.
- It is completely unnecessary.
- It leads to endless cases of overlink own every page that all of the Cast templates are used on.

- I agree, on my screen at least it is almost impossible to tell the difference (and had I not seen this discussion then I probably wouldn't have been able to.) Something brighter or clearer would definitely be preferable than what it is now.--Ditto51 (My Talk Page) 13:36, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
- I'd support removing the link. I'm going to post at the TV project to make sure other editors have eyes on this, as these templates are mainly used on TV articles (as far as I have seen) and the outcome will also affect what we do with {{CMain}} and {{CRecurring}}. Which, I guess while we're at it, why are they called "CX"? What's the C for? Cast? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 19:45, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
- The link is optional. Per other table cell templates you can put anything in the cell:

- That means removing the link doesn't have any effect, because somebody can add a link anyway. Regarding overlinking, note that WP:REPEATLINK says that links may be repeated in tables, which is where this template is supposed to be used. As for why the templates are named as they are, has anybody asked FleetCommand? He created the templates. The only real issue here is the colour, if it's an issue at all. I'm sure there's a colour out there that is compliant. It doesn't have to be grey, but does it matter that it is? --AussieLegend (✉) 20:31, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with Aussie, removing the link won't help, especially if someone adds a different link as they will still have a problem. I think changing the colour to one that isn't so much like the grey cells is the way to go. I actually thought the yellow that it was temporarily changed to at one point was fine, and it made sense to me to have a colour that is clearly different from the green and pink we are already using, especially if someone is not using the default content. - adamstom97 (talk) 04:09, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- The yellow color was (apparently) just arbitrarily changed, which is why the purple was brought back and then AlexTheWhovian made it compliant. I'd be open to discussing a new color option that all are agreeable on (as I personally wasn't much of a fan of the yellow). - Favre1fan93 (talk) 14:41, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- @AussieLegend: Thanks for inviting me and thanks for the fair and valid representation of status quo!

- I chose these colors because they were already used. I just looked at Category:Sitcom characters by series, chose a color that was predominantly in use and did it. If you ask me, I love them. But FYI, I didn't create {{CSpecialGuest}}, {{CAppeared}}, and {{CCameo}}. They seem all redundant and pointless to me. The last one is not even transcluded anywhere.
- Better than best regards and beyond,
- Fleet Command (talk) 21:59, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments Fleet. It's good to know there was some basis for you choosing the colors. I think if we can come to some conclusion to keep them as close to what they were, while still being AAA compliant and properly handling the links, that should fine. I feel that those other three templates you didn't create are redundant, as a user can, and should, just use this template, and change the text. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:23, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with Fleet Command and Favre1fan93 regarding the other three, recently created templates. When this is done we should probably take those to TfD. --AussieLegend (✉) 00:46, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
- I am also in agreement concerning the redundant templates, we should be having those deleted once we are done here. As for the colours, we should just adjust the purple so that it stays AAA compliant but also is distinguishable from the grey, and see how we go. - adamstom97 (talk) 01:21, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
- FFE4FF is compliant. It's like a really light purple. DDA0DD also works, but only with one of the linked color states (I think the 'clicked' one). But I guess again, do we need this text linked by default? I'm thinking no. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 01:44, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

I don't think gray is good color because it is already used by {{N/A}} and those articles the employ these templates also use {{N/A}}.

By the way, if you excuse my ignorance, what is AAA? Somehow, I don't think you guys are talking about anti-aircraft artillery or authentication, authorization and accounting. Fleet Command (talk) 22:11, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
- AAA standard Alex|The|Whovian? 22:17, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
- And our guideline regarding it is WP:COLOR. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:49, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
- Also, here are examples with the colors I stated above:

- Favre, that second colour looks a lot like the recurring colour, but I think the first one is different enough from the others. I would be happy with that, if everyone else agrees. - adamstom97 (talk) 00:16, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- I also agree that the other templates can certainly be deleted. I want to point out that blue is also commonly used for guest where the template is not in use. I think that #DDFBFF would be a good option for this template (It's the current one for "Special Guest", which won't interfere if the others are deleted. —DLManiac (talk) 06:46, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- Both seem nice choices to me. Fleet Command (talk) 09:46, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Straw poll
So keeping this simple, can we maybe do a quick straw poll? It will be between FFE4FF and DDFBFF, as both are AAA compliant with no link, linked text, and clicked link text. Here are both, in the order I just listed them:

Okay, I'm going to be bold since everyone involved here !voted and change the color to DDFBFF. Additionally, @Cyphoidbomb:, can you delete {{CSpecialGuest}}, {{CAppeared}}, {{CCameo}}, as was discussed further up the discussion as being redundant to this template. I have removed all uses of those three templates in the mainspace. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 19:57, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- Favre1fan93 Wait, what am I supposed to be deleting? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:56, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- Cyphoidbomb Whoops. I didn't format correctly before. The three template's I've now fixed in my comment above. All who contributed to this discussion deemed them redundant to this table, especially since you can adjust the text. Hope I clarified. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:55, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Issues still with the color
@BSCD128: If you disagree with the above consensus, please post here instead of arbitrarily changing the colour. Thank you. Alex|The|Whovian? 15:04, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
- I thought I could get used to it, but (at least on my screen) the difference between the CGuest colour and CMain colour is so insignificant that a brief scan over at able doesn't really demonstrated the difference between the two, despite that being what we are trying to achieve. Is there not a blue like colour that could replace it? And I mean an obvious blue, not some mesh between Blue and Green that is closer to green.--Ditto51 (My Talk Page) 19:21, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
- I have to agree. I thought that there was a good difference before, but seeing CGuest and CMain beside each other now, they look almost the same. I think just something a bit more blue, that is compliant of course, would fix this. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:34, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
- A true blue is going to be a major issue because of the link. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:48, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

How about A6E2FF. Still compliant: http://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html#fg=0B0080,bg=A6E2FF and definitely distinguishable. See below— DLManiac (talk)- Nevermind I was checking the wrong link color. I forget that these links are always clicked for me. —DLManiac (talk) 05:44, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

I thinks its better, I've added in a link to the template so that it is more representative of what it will look like in the template with the link.--Ditto51 (My Talk Page) 11:09, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
