Box width

Info box has suddenly got really wide and I don't know how to put it right. Jack1956 (talk) 20:58, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

I have tried in vein to find a way to get the lines to wrap automatically. Using commas did result in the lines wrapping but unfortunately also displayed the commas themselves which looked quite untidy. I have resorted to the brute force method of manual line breaks. This works OK on my browser, but obviously may not work as well for different screen resolutions. Notwithstanding, I think that this is still better than everyone having lines way off screen. If someone else has a better idea on how to get the lines to wrap without inserting additional visible marks, or separating the ribbons from their respective descriptions or wrapping descriptions in the middle, then feel free to jump in. After a LOT of fiddling, I found that putting the {{.}} OUTSIDE of the {{nowrap ... }}, AND placing a space between }} {{, I managed to get auto-window-width-resizing to behave itself in IE. Can users of other browsers please comment on whether this "solution" works in their browsers please? (Thanks Terrapin & Jack - that has been irritating me for a while.) Renaming

Accumulated Campaign Service Medal

@Hammersfan: About your repeated reversals of my edit to the template on 17:43, 15 June 2015‎:

• The campaign medals in the template are listed in order of date of campaign for which awarded, not in order of "date of inception". If they were in order of date of institution, please explain the position of the Arctic Star in the template.
• Listing them in order of the date of the campaign for which awarded automatically puts them in order of wear, which is how it is also prescribed in the official Order of Wear. See The London Gazette of 17 March 2003, page 3352. Why would you want to deviate from the official arrangement?
• According to the same document the Accumulated Campaign Service Medal is not a campaign medal. It is a long service medal, awarded for repeated stints of operational service and not for a dated campaign. There are a multitude of awards that take precedence after all campaign medals and before all efficiency and long service awards, so it makes no sense to place a long service award in between campaign medals in the template according to its date of institution.
• It also makes no sense to place it in two positions. It is one medal that has received a new ribbon and of which the time served requirement had been reduced, not two separate medals.

HEIC Medals and Kabul to Kandahar Star

I have replaced the 'HEIC_Jellalabad_and_others_ribbon_bar.svg' medal bar as it inverts the ribbon - the red should be on the left, while that shown on Wikipedia until now shows the blue on the left. Capture of Ceylon Medal

I'm about to add this medal to the box, and felt I need to point out that the 'ribbon bar' I'm adding isn't so much a ribbon bar as an illustration. The medal was not awarded with any accompanying ribbon bar, but was supposed to be worn on a yellow cord. I could've left this medal without an accompanying ribbon, but since the bars serve to separate the medals in this box, I felt it would do more than just illustrate the colour of the cord. If anyone has an alternative, please do feel free to reply here. - ක - (talk) 14:44, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

I have replaced the ribbon with a strip of yellow suspension cord. Do you think this works? If not feel free to revert to your version.

Adding section for early East India Company medals

I suggest adding a section to this template for early Hon East India Company (HEIC) medals as:
- each of these medals now has its own article;
- several were awarded to British Army as well as Indian recipients, (e.g. Seringapatam and Egypt 1801);
- later HEIC medals (e.g. for Ghuznee, Jellalabad, Kelat-I-Ghilzie, Scinde, Sutlej and Gwalior Star) already appear in the template.
I attach an example of the addition below - note that no ribbon is shown for those worn around the neck from a cord.

An alternative is a separate template that lists HEIC campaign medals. While this overlaps the British campaign medal template, this makes sense as all later HEIC medals were awarded to British Army soldiers on the samne basis as Indians, and therefore belong in both categories.

Removal of Capture of Ceylon Medal from template

Removed Capture of Ceylon Medal from this template and added it to new template: Campaign medals of the Honourable East India Company as:

• it was awarded by the East India Company to its own troops only; and
• it was neither granted to British soldiers, nor recognised by the British Crown as an official medal that could be worn in British Army uniform.
