Removal of metro area
[edit]An editor has deleted the metro area, a small part of the county, geographically, from the template. The problem is that editors, for want of an "easy" target, put stuff incorrectly in either one of the city articles, or, if we are lucky, the county. This is undesirable when it is the metro that is intended. The latter is often true with newspaper accounts reporting statistics nationally. As a result, many, if not most, of the metro articles in Wikipedia have been neglected, and we have places like Hoboken claiming (or maybe claimed-haven't checked lately) LaGuardia as one of "it's" airports! This info really should go into the combined metro area. Student7 (talk) 13:35, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Why? For one thing, these templates are for municipalities and communities, not metropolitan areas. As well, the metro area encompasses the entire county. I don't know why the metro area has its own article; the standard practice for single-county metropolitan and micropolitan areas is to redirect them to the county article, since all that can be said about them can equally be said about the county. - Actually, county boundaries should go well outside the metro. There are ranches, cows, lakes, the Saint Johns River. and swampland to the west of the metro that are not within the metro. Almost nobody living there at all.
- And it is metropolitan not micropolitan. See http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/assets/omb/bulletins/fy2009/09-01.pdf.
- Anyway, metros have fluctuating boundaries which may change during an articles lifetime. It may include a part of Indian River County, to the south, at some near point in time. Student7 (talk) 15:11, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- I never said that it was micropolitan — and your source agrees with me that the metropolitan area encompasses the entire county. All metropolitan and micropolitan areas encompass entire counties. Nyttend (talk) 15:15, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Port Canaveral missing
[edit]There is no place on here for Port Canaveral which is an important unincorporated place, probably greater in economy than Merritt Island, but nearly unpopulated! Needs to be placed in here somehow. Ideas? Student7 (talk) 21:55, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
