Rationale for a Black People template
[edit]This template is a move away from topics revolving entirely around various 'race' theories. Instead, categorizes subjects related to various peoples considered (at various points in time) to be 'black' by geography, culture, history, sociology and race.Ackees (talk) 16:24, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Black Africans
[edit]Rsk6400 I know you mean well but in response to "Indigenous African societies do not use the term black as a racial identity..." [1] I am from an indigenous African society which does. Here is Encyclopædia Britannica's article on Pan-Africanism: [2]. Take notice to places of black African mention such as "meeting was attended by several prominent Blacks from Africa..." And notice the Wiki article's multiple reference to "black Africa" within the Pan-Africanism article. Furthermore, please notice the Black people article itself for which the Black people template is mainly for, is led with "Black people is a racialized classification of people, usually a political and skin color-based category for specific populations with a mid to dark brown complexion." Also, notice that according to this reasoning, "Indigenous African societies do not use the term black as a racial identity...", Austronesians, West and South Asians should not be permitted to the list as well. I considered that an entry of Sub-Saharan Africa might be removed because every other thing in that segment is in reference to a people category and not to a place but there is yet to be a Black Africans page and so that should be fitting for the time being. Can you please explain to me why you believe Indigenous African societies do not use the term black as a racial identity while I do and bear witness to its vast usage in my own society? - As you surely know, all race issues are very complicated ones. The existence of a "Negroid race" in a biological sense has been debunked by science in the late 20th century. We can only write about the meaning of Blackness in a given society. That's what I wanted to say by quoting from the article (not my own opinion, but a quote from that article). Since there is no definition of Blackness independent of society, we cannot assume that sub-Saharan Africa is the ancestral home of all Black people all over the world, and that's why I reverted your edit. Please note that references to Wikipedia itself may be used in discussions (which both of us did), but not as references in the article, since they don't meet the criteria of WP:RS. Enc.Brit. is an RS, but above you created an argument just from mentions of Black people from Africa, which is WP:OR. Hope this helps, regards --Rsk6400 (talk) 12:28, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
