add validation

[edit]

Per a request at Help talk:Citation Style 1 I have added the bibcode validation from cs1|2 to this template's sandbox.

In the process of doing this, I notice that there is an undocumented parameter |label=. Perhaps it is there because someone thinks that bibcodes are ugly:

For on-line use this is fine. But, the label is also included in the print only version of the template. Why? What value does that bring to the template?

Good question. I'll do a database scan when I get home in the next few days to see how this parameter is used. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 13:27, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever those parameters were used for (|2= or |label=), they don't seem to be used anymore. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 20:18, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Template updated accordingly. Thanks. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 20:20, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
An error-tracking category is usually helpful with error messages like this. Can the module be updated to use an error-tracking category similar to those used for {{ISSN}} and {{ISBNT}}? – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:01, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bibcode URL may change

[edit]

See this ongoing discussion at Help talk:Citation Style 1. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:09, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I recently changed the template to use an up-to-date HTTPS URL for Bibcode links instead of the existing HTTP URL. From what I remember, the existing HTTP URL would generate an HTTP 301 redirect to an HTTPS URL. --Elegie (talk) 09:58, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
