Edit request on 13 April 2012

[edit]

I would like for the discussion of Fort Pillow to be removed. The statement made is simply not true, and I understand it is cited but they have false information. Saying black soldiers were especially targeted is inaccurate, they were offered surrender just like the other union soldiers. Their foolishness expecting reinforcements that were not coming led to their demise as they all ran like cowards towards the Mississippi River. Many of the Union soldiers were actually killed by drowning in the river. I also would like to point out that there was no massacre. Any reference to what General Forrest did at Fort Pillow should not be mentioned in the same sentence as the word massacre. 166.248.111.26 (talk) 05:15, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: No discussion of Fort Pillow here, this is only a template. Generally, if there's a source it's always tricky to remove a statement unless you can prove (with another source) that the statement is false, so if you make a new edit request about this (on the page with the discussion) you should provide a source. --Six words (talk) 23:28, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of other sub-groups

[edit]

I would like to suggest the following to replace what's currently listed for sub-ethnic groups:

African African-American · African immigration to the United States · Afro-Asian American · Afro-Boricua · Atlantic Creole · Black Indians · Black Seminoles · Brass Ankles · Cherokee freedmen · Chestnut Ridge people · Choctaw Freedmen · Foreign-born Afro-Americans · Garifuna · Gullah · Nigerian American · Black Pacific Islander · Igbo · African-American Louisiana Creole · Black Lumbee · Melungeon · Nigerian American · Redbones · We-Sorts

I am not sure why, of all the aboriginal African ethnic groups, Igbo has been listed, especially when Igbo are not indigenous to The Americas. However, I understand it may be do to their prominent presence and achievement throughout history and across the globe compared to all other sub-ethnic black groups. Nigerian Americans do rank as the most affluent, in terms of education and income levels, among all African descendants in the United States of America. Seems okay, but the African immigrants link doesn't belong since they are not an ethnic group or a sub-ethnic group of African Americans. They come from many different ethnoracial backgrounds. Middayexpress (talk) 16:50, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objections, but I encourage you to make the same changes to {{African American topics sidebar}} and {{African American topics}}. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 22:10, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
