Points

[edit]

@ManojDDesai: Can stop adding points to Australia and changing the table? The points change has not been approved yet by ICC. Only add tgem after they appear on the sources. Human (talk) 11:38, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok fine.. But i feel that, it will be approved by icc in near future ManojDDesai (talk) 14:50, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

England has qualified for CWC(not given in the source(I already mailed to ICC already about it), but we can see that using calculations), (England has 125 points, where 5 team would not get more than 122(Netherlands max 75, Zimbabwe max 85, West Indies max 88, Ireland max 98, Sri Lanka max 122)

The Netherlands has qualified for CWC Qualifier( not given in the source, We can see that using calculations), (Netherlands can get maximum of 75 points and already 8 teams have points >=80) Please make these 2 changes Kaaryanm (talk) 12:22, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:45, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All sources don't list them as qualified. Thus either everyone's calculations are wrong or the sources need updating. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:49, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The source need updating, ICC website is updated a lot later after the actual figures (I myself is an expert in Points Table calculations). I have also shown the clear calculations, anyone can verify. Kaaryanm (talk) 17:38, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Until the ICC confirms it, we shouldn't be stating it as fact. After all, they are the ones running the qualification system... saying "I can count it" isn't a reliable source. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:49, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Then how did you update the table for points, ICC didn't approve the points of today's match yet. Please stay on your own statement. And now Zimbabwe is also qualified for qualifiers. Kaaryanm (talk) 03:44, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaaryanm: England can still get their points deducted in future series because of penalties. However these penalties wont matter to Netherlands and Zimbabwe anymore. And not to mention the status of the South Africa-Australia series is unclear as ICC haven't added the thirty points Australia were supposed to be given. Also South Agrica do have an unfinished series against Netherlands. This would also mean Bangladesh and Pakistan are qualified. Human (talk) 03:56, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@A Simple Human But these series are not cleared by ICC, I am giving my results from the points table that has already been cleared by ICC, it does not assumes anything or any future or past match points to be added, the calculation is just based on what has already been added to points table(taking care of all the possible results in the future).
The Australia- South Africa series that is part of CWC super league is yet to happen(supposed to happen in Jan-2023, but will be postponed). South Africa-Netherlands series will resume in April-2023. So how can anyone assume about the points of the future matches.
Even now as the points table is clear, 8th team has 88 points, and even if Netherland win all its matches, it will get to a maximum of 75 points, ICC has not put Eliminated/ Qualified for CWC Qualifiers. ICC puts these things very late, even for India, the put Q after 3 years.
You can also see in this news article( https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/2770460 ) from ICC that "Zimbabwe will feature in the Qualifier on home soil". ICC updates the table a lot later, you can find news here and there about the qualification. Kaaryanm (talk) 06:02, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaaryanm: The South Africa-Australia series was anniunced as cancelled as 30 points were supposed to be given to Australia because of the franchise league. There was no mention of postponement. And there is possibility of point reduced which is why ICC might not have mentioned anything about England qualifying. I did change for Netherlands and Zimbabwe in the table. Human (talk) 06:51, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The series has been cancelled, but the points will not be given to Australia, as they are in talk for rescheduling the series (similar to India-England 5th test), and also the time at which the series was supposed to happen has not passed yet, so there is no reason that the points to be given to Australia. Your argument are completely base less on this series. If we take the point deduction till now, Teams lost 9 points in 111 matches(222 innings), even if we multiply this rate with 12 then also England would have qualified.(I don't think England is such a bad team). with its previous record of no point lost. Kaaryanm (talk) 09:20, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to want to completely ignore WP:V: we need a reliable source to state that England have qualified. Until that happens you are performing WP:OR. Other sources may be being slow to update, but WP follows sources, not lead them. Sources such as cricinfo do sometimes update their tables before the ICC: it is fine to use their tables, but not ones maintained yourself. Spike 'em (talk) 09:28, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Spike 'em cricinfo didn't even put Q after India, how do you expect it to do so for ENG Kaaryanm (talk) 16:22, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We don't necessarily need a source with a table with a Q on it, a report from a reliable source that states "England have qualified for the World Cup" or similar will do. Spike 'em (talk) 17:25, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, teams can lose points, so England haven't necessarily qualified. They could lose enough points for slow over rates to get overtaken. Either way, we should wait for sources to say England have qualified rather than running lots of maths calculations with assumption that nobody will lose points (which is an invalid assumption). Ties

[edit]

As per the ICC rules for this, If the teams’ scores are equal after both innings have been completed (if applicable under DLS – see clause 16.4), then a Super Over shall be played. If the Super Over is a tie, then unless exceptional circumstances arise (see paragraph 26 of Appendix G) subsequent Super Overs shall be played until there is a winner. Should it not be possible to play or to complete the Super Overs needed to determine a winner, the match shall be tied. There are 0 tied matches as it's almost impossible to get a tied match (unless it rains before a Super Over can occur), so we shouldn't be posting it. After all, the only tied match was decided by a Super Over [1]. Kaaryanm please stop edit warring to add this pointless column. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:53, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ok, point noted, I added this column as ICC have it in its table(a reliable source as per me), and also it is written that if super over is not possible then match can be tied, but if you do not want to include this in table assuming by yourselves that there will be no circumstances of a tie, I thought that we only put verified thing on this page, without assuming that their would be no matches where the super over will not be possible. Kaaryanm (talk) 15:09, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaaryanm: Listen, the deducted points column didn't exist initially until points were actually deducted. Theres no need of tied matches column unless one happens in reality. In this case, you are the one asserting your assumptions on others. Wikipedia is for readers to find useful information, not what you think is right. Human (talk) 18:07, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm relatively neutral on including the ties column (probably lean towards not including), but on the RS point : we require reliable sources to verify the information; we don't need to slavishly replicate what they say and can make editorial decisions about what to show (as long as these follow other pillars / guidelines such as NPOV). Looking at other sources as a guide: Reduced table on Cricinfo does not show ties, but its detailed one does (but doesn't show deductions). Spike 'em (talk) 09:04, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
