Please only update once per match day
[edit]Rather than update after the result of each match (or game if you prefer) is know, please only update once, It will avoid conflicts. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:07, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
- Be more specific. What sort of conflicts are you worried about and why do we care? There hasn't been any conflicts up until now. This is the way it is done with other leagues. As long as the updates are made after the match is over, I do not see what the problem is. Bmf 051 (talk) 04:49, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
- The usual conflicts an anon edits the table to add a win for their team but no others. That would then either mess subsequent editors up because they assume the result for the losing team has been added, or, if they add a loss for the other team, also add another win for the first team. - Those sorts of conflicts can be easily fixed. And when those sorts of conflicts happen on any other page or template, editors just fix it. It really isn't that big of a deal. But, as far as I've noticed for this season, that hasn't been a problem for this particular template, probably because there aren't that many people editing it. In fact, the only time any one's edits of this template have conflicted with my own was when you reverted my otherwise valid edits so that you could enforce some arbitrary time restriction. But, I want you to try something: try presenting this idea to the WP:FOOTY community at large, and see what people think. Maybe make this suggestion on one of the table templates with more editors (and therefore, the conflicts you're worried about should happen more often). Template:2014–15 Premier League table and Template:Current Bundesliga table have more editors than this one. Suggest this there. Surely, if your reason for wanting this applies here, it would apply to other similar templates, right?

On a separate note, unless things have changed, qualification of champions league for US-based teams are done based on their league placement, not conference placement. You have "Since the Vancouver Whitecaps are a Canadian team" or the Canadian-only commentary there, when it's irrelevant there. The rules here are wrong as well. The top US-based team is placed in pot A, it's not "The winner of the Supporters Shield is placed in Pot A". It's early in the season, but if things continue as they have, the winner of the shield will not be placed in pot A. Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:06, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
- Both conference regular season champions (unless Canadian) qualify for the Champions League. So teams do qualify based on conference placement. If a spot is vacated (if a Canadian team wins the Supporters' Shield. for instance), then the next best team in the league table replaces them. The rules listed below the template are the default rules, but they can (and do) change, as they did last year (when the Open Cup CCL spot was passed to RSL because Seattle was also the SS champion). But that doesn't make the rules "wrong" or some how invalid. Even CONCACAF lists these rules as MLS's official qualifying procedure. See here.
