Template:Women fooers from Northern Ireland/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Displays standardized category navigation for women by occupations from Northern Ireland, required by Wikipedia:Naming conventions (categories)#Occupation.

It also makes it easy to ensure that the category is properly parented.

The category must be named "Women <something> from Northern Ireland", e.g.

Usage

[edit]
Example 1

See Category:Women writers from Northern Ireland
Example 2

See Category:Women novelists from Northern Ireland

This template should not be substituted.

Portals

[edit]

By default, this template adds links to three portals: Portal:Northern Ireland, Portal:Ireland, and Portal:Biography.

More portal links may be added using any or all of these parameters: |portal=, |portal2=, and |portal3=

e.g.

Non-diffusing

[edit]

By default, this template tags the categories as a non-diffusing subcategory.

In some, cases this will be inappropriate, most commonly in professions which are inherently gendered, such as singers.

To suppress non-diffusing subcategory, add the parmeter |nondiffusing=no.

Technical details

[edit]

This is a variant of the widely used Template:Fooian fooers. It is for use with the sub-categories of Category:Women from Northern Ireland by occupation, which use the format "Women [profession] from Northern Ireland", rather than the standard "[Nationality] women [profession]".

Adds three standard parent categories:

  •
  •
  •

for (This is because all sub-cats of Category:People from Northern Ireland are parented in the equivalent sub-categories Irish people and British people. This reflects the commitment by the governments of the UK, Ireland and Northern Ireland in the Good Friday Agreement to the recognition of both national identities.)

If the "Supercategory" parameter is used, the following parent category will be generated added:

  •

Otherwise, this parent category will be generated:

  •

In all cases. the template adds either:

  • (if it exists)
    or
  •

Self-checking

[edit]

The template tests for the existence of or , and alters its output as follows:

  1. If the "Supercategory" parameter is supplied, but does not exist, then will be used instead.
  2. When the "Supercategory" parameter is not supplied, the template tests for the existence of . If that does not exist, then will be used instead.
